ore cftois. There's Jane Sophia, Aad Annie Maria, WithZedckiah ,lv ,- la our choir. Ajj'&'Janc Sophia soprano sings, 86' high you'd think Tier Toiceliad wings To soar above all earthly things. When she leads off on Sunday; While Annie Maria's alto choice Rings out in su.'Ji harmonious voice, That sinners iu the church rejoice, And wish she'd sing till Monday. Then Obcdiah's tenor high Is not surpa'scd beneath the sky; Just hear him sing "Sweet By-and-By," And you will sit in wonder; "While Zedekiah's bass profound Goes down so low it jars the ground,' And wakes the echoes miles around, Like distant rolling thunder. Talk not to us of Patti's Tame, Or Nicolini'8 tenor tame, Or Cary's contralto but a name Or Whitney's pond'rous basso I They sing no more like Jane Sophia, And Annie 3Iaria, Obcdiah, And Zedekiuh in our choir, Than cats sing like Tamasso. Anon. THt PLATFOBM. The following is the report of the committee on resolutions at the State convention, which form the platform of the Republican party iu the State: The Republican party of Oregon in convention assembled do make and affirm the following declaration of our political principles:" Resolved First, That we favor honest, efficient and economic adminis tration of every department of govern ment. Second, That we favor the equal protection of the rights of labor and oajiital. Third, We are in favor of regulat ing the (salaries of county officers so that they shall receive such compensa tions as are commensurate with their services. Fourth, That we regard tho free school system of our State as the sj-ecial care and pride ot the Republican party. Fifth, That it is the policy of the Republican party to foster and en courage the' development of ourJState by the construction of railways which wilL place us in direct communication with our sister states. Sixth, That we hold all corporations to be strictly responsible to their Ha bilities under tho law, and recognize the right of the legislature to enact all reasonable limitations on corporate powers. Seventh, That to the and that all settlors upen all unearned raiTroad lands in this Stato may be enabled to obtain titles without delay, and that those seeking homes may not be em barrassed in tho location of lands, we favor such action by congresR as will place such lands within reach of actual Bottlers at a price not exceeding, S3 50 per acre, under such conditions nntl provisions as will secure the railway companies in any vested rights or equities that may they have in the pro ceeds of fiucli lands. Eighth, That we favor the enact ment of a law by congress restoring to settlers the riclit to homestead and pre empt in all cases where by abandon ment of entries and Clings, they have hitherto not had the full benefit of these acts. Ninth, That the rapidly increasing manufacturing ami wool raising inter ests of the State demand the continued fostering caro of the general govern ment, Tenth, That the reciprocity treaty with the Sandwich islands is an impo sition upon the government and the people, and should bo speedily abrogat ed. Eleventh, That by the generous pol icy of the Republican party in con gress, liberal appropriations have bt-en made to various portions of tho State, and we favor a continuance of this liberal policy for the development of our State and especially for the im provement of the Columbia river and its tributaries, the Yaquina and Coos bays, and pioposed harbor of refuge at Port Orford, the TJmpqua, Coquille nnd Siuslaw rivers, the construction of the locks at tho Cascades, and the Dalles of the Columbia river, as well as other sections of our State. Twelfth, We profoundly deplore the untimely and tragic death of James Atiram Garfield, late President of the United States, whowasshotdown while in the discharge of his oflicial duties by . thehand of a cowatdly assassin, and we approve and applaud the practical wisdom, the unM-ltish patriotism and the unswerving fidelity to theconstitu tion and tho principles of American liberty with which James A. Garfield discharged under circumstances of un paralleled difficulties the duties and re uponsibilities of the Presidential officp during his brief occupancy there. Thirteenth. We regard President Arthur's veto of the bill for restriction of Chinese immigration as unwise and uniust, and we condemn the policy which prompted it as bping opposed to the principles of the Republican part as expressed in the platform of our last National Republican Convention; and We heartily commend our represen tative in congress, Hon. M. C. George, for his able efforts to secure the pass age of such bill; and We here earnestly declare it to bf our belief that Chinese immigration to the United States should be restricted, and we demand that our representa- tives in congress tlialt persist in advo cating the enactments of a law that will effectually accomplish this result. Fourteenth, That we heartily en- , dorse- the course ot our ablo conress-J man, Hon. M. C George, in his untir- ing efforts in behalf of our State; and that wo heartily approve the economi wtl and efficient administration on the jiirt of our presen' Republican State ANirVERSARY BALL AT MADAME HOLT'S HALL, ON St. Tammany's Day, May 12. 1882.
