Editor Sentinel. Dear Sir: The people of Josephine county havo a right to ask 31 r. H. Casque t the fol lowing questions: Why don't you go on with-the wag on road? Why did you quit work b- fore you spent all of, the 81,750 sub scribed by Snn Francisco merchants? AMJl vou quit work la.-it Full imrM,nt'ne:rvtKv unuer- stooo you to say that you liad now un dertaken tlio great responsibility of building the much needed road "with good faith nnd intentions in the mat tei?'' Why did you a short time ago, write to Messrs Floyd fc Kelly (Judgo and Com in ssioner) requesting them to pay you for the two miles of road which you built, but which was not completed? Upon their failing to par you therefor why did you return to Judge Floyd the written agreement which you had with this county say ing that if they (the court) could find an individual or company who would take franchise and build tho road to let them have ill Why did you build said two miles of road without tbo least sign of a water drain of tho up per side of the road? Why did you not build the $300 bridge on said tro miles of road bo fore you asked to be paid? Why havo you allowed tho road to wash out and spoil tho grade? Why did you advertise for bids in a way you knew no one would unswerl Why did you ask the peoplo of Del Norte county to give you 56,000 when at one titno previously you only asked of them $3,000 and; why did you "haul ofP tho hands "to make them come to time" as you then said? Why did jou say onco upon a time that you wanted the road company in corporated for $100,000, and that you wanted the company to build and own in ;sontiV!7i!oh' Wth tua iooO a wUii' and warehouse at Crescent City and thatjou wou'd go to San Francisco and state to tho merchants there that the interior mer:hants interested in the read had arranged that they would not buy goods of houses in San Fran cisco who would not subscribe to tho road and wharf, and that you wanted the people of Southern Oregon to ob ligate themselves to do all their busi ness over this road and wharf and with those houses in San Francisco who had subscribed to the enterprise? Do you not know that this proceeding of yours was what "busted" that Del Norte county road company with which you became so "disgusted?" Upon learning this did tho Crescent City wharf company not reduce their proposed subscription from $3,000 to $500. Had you a right to rivet tho shack les of monopoly upon our commerce? Did you think you could retain the confidence of tho people and get aid from them under these circumstances! Why did you in the Sentinel un der date of A'pril 24, 1831, say,'"I do not believe an individual or company can be found in Del Norte county who will take the donations and build tho road. Can such an individual or com pany be found in Jackson or Josephine counties? If so let them come forward take the donations and do it." ; ' . Why did you in another month b coinc to much of a road builder as to say, "I have now undertaken this great responsibility in good faith." Did we understand you to say through a Waldo Correspondence sometime ago that the rpason you concluded to build a road Via Low Divide to Smith River was because the Smith River peepla were about to build a road where it would not do the most good. Pray did you not think it best to move just enough then to kill off the Diamond creek project? In short when do you propose to pro ceed with the road and do you intend to build the road or do you expect Ui.i people to build tho road and give it to you? "Answer soon and often." Taxpayer and Resident. Josephine county, Or. Nov. 29, 18Sl CniCAGO, November 23.
