Cenquered by a Wensam. Yes, what tBe ralsr of tho British arraies could not do, she has dont. IT ft are conquered by the gentleness of a woman. Her quick, constant, del icate Bjmpathj has won for her a right royal place in our American homes. At every dark hour, when our Presi dent seemed to be sinking, through the gloom shone the soft and cheering light of the tender sympathy and hearty Hope of Britian's queen. She has ac knowledged our President's wife-as an equal, as one entitled to royal courtesy, and stood beside her as no one but the Queen ef England oould. Many mes sages of sympathy haTe come across the seas; but the crowning message is that of Queen Victoria to Mrs. Gar field, when the long, painful struggle was OTir. Now the court gees into mourning; and following the example of the crown, the church bells and cathedral bells of England are tolled, and the exchange is closed on the day of the President's funeral, and all Britain is mored with sorrow as it never has been before by the death of of a man of another nation. Dyaacaltr. The "Pall Mall Gazette" sayn: Dy namite is too dangerous an aeent to be sold as freely as sealing-wax, yet it seems to be procurable without any difficulty in all parts of the country. Hardly a month passes in which cases are net reported of poachers using dy namite as a means of catching fish, and the dynamite grenade used to kill trout in a pool might just as easily be emploj ed to destroy human life. Bo familiar are some people with the ex plosive that it is even being used as a means of suicide. A Yorkshire cor respondent sent to the "British Medi cal Journal" of a recent date an accoant of an. extraordinary case, in which a drunken well-sinker pat an end to himself by exploding a dynamite cart ridge in his mouth. Strangely enough, although his tongue, teeth, palate and maxillary bones were blown to pieces, the skin ot the cheeks and lips re mained1 intact, and, except for ex travasation of blood about the eyes, there was little to show externally the causeof his death. It is rumored that the western ter minus of the Yaquins Bay railroad, for the present at least, will be at Toledo, some 13"' miles above Newport The reason given for stopping there is that a long tunnel mmst be built between Toledoand" Ford's point, the future terminus which will require a great length ef time and much labor, and cannot be ready to move the present crop of grain until late next season; but by stopping-at Toledo the-road can be in readiness early in 1882 to move of the crop. The work of tunneling will be pushed ahead, and probably by fall in 1882 the road will be in readi ness for trade and traffic to Ford's point, the original terminus. "Albany Her aid." Albant, Oct, 12. At 1:50 this morning the committee on contested seats decided to admit only the New York county democratic delegations. This action leaves Tammany and Irv ing Hall without representation in the convention. The following ticket was nominated: Secretary of state, Wb. Purcell; comp troller, Geo. H. Lapham, attorney gen eral, Boswell A. Parmenter; treasmrer, Robere Maxwell; state engineer, Thos. Eversted; judge of appeals ex-Attorney General Schoonmaker. After the usu al vote of thanks the-convention ad journed sine die.
