Mr. Garret reports that nearly all the timbers intended for the new bridge across Applegate near Bull's place hsve been carried away by the fmhet. This is a serious loss but it will not deter the citizens from build ins as a bridge at that point is an alt- solute necessity and the timber will soon be replaced. It appears quite probable that work on the bridge to span the Willamette river at Portland will bestopjed. An -injunction has been asked for on the ground that it will seriously inide navigation. The chief objection to the bridge is that the "draw" is too narrow and will tndanger the safety of vessels passing through it.
