L.S. A party of gentlemen who yesterday ascended 3It. Davidson going straight up the face of the mountain from the city observed a somewhat singular phenomenon. They say that all tho ground on the slope of the mountain wbero bare of snow was completely covered with bugs somewhat resembling the Colorado beetle. A bright orange was the predominant color of the bee tles, and they were present in such vast numbers that it was at 6rst supposed that -ho ground was .cov ered with a bright .cojored moss. The beetles came up out of the ground, and their only business seemed to bo to absorb the warmth of tho sun. On tfio eastern face of the mountain the snow-banks are not very deop, but on the northern slope drifts appear to have formed to a great depth. "Virginia Enterprise, April 29. The Tucson "Record" of a late date states that the engineers of the Texas Pacific railroad and also of the Atch ison, Topeka and Santa Fe, and Southern Pacific railroads are at pres ent in El Paso, camped near Fort Bliss. The Southern Pacific bave surveyed their lino within ten miles of El Paso. The Atchison company have seized upon the El Paso canyonj and are grading it for the purposo of holding it against the other two. The Texas Pa cific has purchased two tracts of land next to old Fort Bliss for the sum of 11,500. The town is full of stran gers, and tho railroad boom is at fever heat. Under a Treas ury decision which held that this rer tal omission was fatal to the freo ad mission of wood pulp, a few manufa turers of that article have been able to 1 impose an exorbitant tax on tfw gen eral lxxly of paper-makers, by whom it is of course shifted on the consum ers, the newspaper publishers of the country, and the burden falls with special hardship on publishers 0utsde of the great cities we consequently, being impoverished Rfl that a handful of monopolists may -grow rich. The most powprful champion of the monopolist is Representative Garfield. Were his opposition to the bill withdrawn, tho restoration of wood pulp to tho free list, where it belongs, would be accom plished in a few days.
