in the awards of diplomas to a num
ber of American exhibitors, growing
out of the unfamiliarity of the Com
misMon of Awards with the American
vernacular. The diploma intended
for the Providence Tool Company, is
adressed to the Providence Fool Com
pany; that for the Gardner Gun Corn
Company is granted for a Fusil pour la

A Noteworthy Contrast. In the
last year of Democratic administration,
under James Buchannan as President,
there were borrowed $4,840,000 on
one year treasury notes, which bore
interest at the rate of twelve per cent,
per annum. The same administration
sold 818,415,000, twenty year six per
cent bonds, at 89. 10-100 per cent.
These bonds mature in 1881, and will
be paid in full by a Republican admin
istration, in honest money. Although
they have less than two years to run,
such is the confidence in the credit of
the Government, they are now selling
at 10 J, while 6's having ten years to
run, are worth "one hundred and twen,
ty-one. The Buchannan Democrats
who played the government out, now
that it is saved and restored under Re-
