No Lath should be taken on a full stomach. All full baths, as a tub bath, wet sheet pack, plunge, douche, shower, or rub tret sheet should never be taken within less than three or four hours after a full meal ; in other words, not until the food is fully digested. Local baths may be given in an hour or two, al ways being careful to keep the temper ature of the natienh. ".-pit Viiilnncnrl- "anaages may be applied at any time when it can be done with comfort. 2. No one should cat within less than an hour after a full bath, or half an hour after a local or partial bath, 60 that the system may have time to react before it is called upon to digest food. 3. All who are able should take Rome exercise before bathing, unless the body is comfortably warm at the time ; but if it is necessary to get in a Inth when feeling chilly and cool, do not use a hot bath at first; it will ex cite action too suddenly. Be&in vith the water comfortable ; heat it up as desired, until perfectly warm, then cool quickly, but not too cool or too suddenly, though it should be cool enough to produco a good action to the surface. No strong shock should ever be mzAe upon the head. Persons who have a well-balanced circulation may take the tliower bath or pail douche 'vnti ueneht, but it should never be let to fall or come with force upon the head. There is no objection to bath ing when the body is warm and per spiring, unless there is great exhaus tion. Wetting the head and even the chest is a useful precaution before tak ing any full bath. We have seen many accounts of the origin of the name of our State, but xno toUowmg from a writer in the Knn -iiauwatui -argoiiauins-uie iaXcsiani most original of them all The wri ter says: "The earliest navigators of the coast of California, when sailing north of California, made a landing, and had a friendly intercourse with a tribe of In dians found there, who had very long pendulous ears, formed so from the habit they had of slitting the lobes, and using them as a receptable in which they carried their ornaments such as earringp, on a very large scale. The sailors called these Indians Ore jones, or Big Ears and in time the name was curtailed to Orejan, or Big Ear. Anolicise the word Orejon and you have Orego. And such is the origin of the name of the State of Ore gon. To the understanding of one of the Spanish race it is nothing moro nor less than.Orejon, or Big Ear, it being a true Spanish word indicating and meaning a large ear. College Boaedixq House. Mrs. M. H. Vining, of this place, is having a neat and commodious house erected on the College grounds at Ashland and she will open it for the reception of scholars desiring board by the time the College year commences. Mrs. Vining is in every respect qualified to superintend a boarding house for the young and will not fail to secure lib eral patronage from parents desiring to place tlcif children in a safe and elegant house. We clip the above from the Oregon (Jacksonville) "Sentinel." Mrs. Vin ing holds a high social position in Southeren Oregon, is a daughter of .Win. Hoffman Esq., and sister-in-law to Judge Beckman, late Republican candidate for Governor. Personally she is a lady of refinement and intel ligence. She settles in Ashland, we understand, to educate her chidren at the Ashland College and Normal School. Pres. Rogers and family will board with her. "Yreka Journal."
