A "Washington special pays: A lady living in England ha mal an application tit eo valuable Bwords, which were formerly the property of Genera1 Twigs-", but which were captured by General Bntler when he entered New Orlean during tho war. These eworda wore sent to President Lincoln by General Butler, and deposited by bis succea w (Jnhnou) in the .vaults of the Treasury De partment for safe keeping. They were valued at S35,00f'. One of them was esented to General Twiggs by Congress for bravery during tho Me ni war. The scabbard is of puro gold, and tho 6Word-hilt is of solid gold, brilliant ly set with diamonds. When Gen eral Twiggs ran away from New burn at tho approach of tho Ui'ion troops he left these swords behind, but sent a leter to a j-oting lady friend to say that he had decided to give them to her, and for her to obtain them. Soon afterward General Twiggs died, and the lady, who now lives in Eigland, c'aim that the swords are her property, and has made a formal npiilicutio'i to the Secretary of the 1 rcunury for them.
