Determined not to let the coming County Fair famish all the inn for the crowd which the occasion Mrill draw together, some of our citi zens hare arranged to give a grand ball at Veit Shutz'sBall in this city on the evening of October 25th, to which lovers ot the art of hopping to time are invited. Every necessary arrangment will be made for a pleasant time, as the matter is in the hands ot the most competent artists in the country, and as to the matter of musio it is only necessary to say that the Jacksonville String Band will furnish that. Head the advertisement. r Feom "The Bora" Mr. Small, of Xink river, informs us that the survey ing party of Turner & Howard are on the west side ot Little Klamath Lake. He says they will reduce the swamp land nearly one-half from what was returned by the Swamp Land Commis sioners, which will give the actual set tlers a chance for a home. He also informs us that the hay crop in that vicinity was much heaviur this year than last, and has all been harvested and put up in good shape. m Zwei Glass Lagkr. The Sentinel office crew and their visiting friends have for some days enjoyed the benefits of Veit Schutz's liberality, in the shape of liberal quaffs of that gentleman's most excellent lager beer, he having rolled a keg full of this favorite bever age of Old Grambrinus into our back room, stuck a fassct into it, and told us quietly to "go in." You can soon have the keg, Yeit; our thanks you have now. Fon Sale. We have in this office a considerable quantity of typo metal, which, to be of any f urtt'er service to us, will require recasting. To avoid the trouble and expense of shipment to a type foundry we offer it for sale here, as it is good for all the purposes to which millmen, machinists, or oJ&CM put Babbit Metal to, and in manyE-jR it is preferable. What it is good for is best told in the adver tisement. Mr. Parker assures us that his experience has proved it to be all that he claims for it, and 'he is now arranging for a wider distribution ot it. Ho will go North in a few days. The Weather. This standard item of the local reporter's has again made itself worthy of remark, by its mixture of rain, frost, sunshine and shadow in the week. Sunday rain fell, which was succeeded by a clear sky and frost on Monday night Since then there has been an alternation of sunshine and shadow, with cool nights and mornings. Warm fires feel pleasant - Dagger Cockle Bder. Many per sons arc complaining of annoyance from this vegetable pest, and as the law requires Road Supervisors to use efforts to remove and exterminate it, a notice of its 'inconvenience published iatbo paper it thought to be about the best way to bring the matter to Super visors' attention. For some days the telegraph has contained notices of the passage, at different points along the route, of a party of North Pacific R. R. officials, who are on their way, we are informed, to select a point on the Sound for the terminus of the N. P. road. Yesterday the party passed this place, looking well and apparently en joying their ride. It consisted of Geo. W. Cass, President ot the Road; Wm. B. Ogden, Chas.B. Wright, Hon. Wm. Windom and T. H. Canfield, Directors; Samuel Wilkeson, Secretary, and Dr. Thayer. We are informed that the Jacksonville District School, which baa been closed for some time on account of the hot weather, will reopen about tho 1st of November. The stage going North on Friday night of last-week was upset on Myrtle creek hill. The driver and one passenger were severely injured. Mr. Dowell and lady were passengeis on that trip, but Mr. D. says he received a "warning," which induced them to get oft at Canyonville. We were not aware of Dowell's con version to spiritualism, for how else would he receive a "warning?" Become Deranged. The Portland Herald of Sept 24th says that William Davidson, a noted leal estate agent and collector of that city, and who has been in business there for the past 13 years, was that day pronounced insane and sent to the Asylum.
