of dear friends. They' look upon Mr.
Greeley as one of the chief agitators
in goading the North on to Mibiurate
and humiliate the South. They look
upon bim as one who conspired their
ruin and brought devastation and mis
ery to their door. With these feelings
at heart can any hone.-t Demociat sup
port Greeley with feelings of good
will? No; they make no Bitch preten
sions, but all admit that he is a very
bitter pill, and the more indiscreet are
already asserting, "D n him! we will
vote for him; there may something
happen him if elected." This is the
tray that Greeley is "enthusiastically"
supported. lie is thus supported by
men who would bo much more enthu
siastic over his death, if elected, than
they are now over the prospect of his
election.
It there should such a sad calamity
befall the nation as the election of Mr.
Greeley, which is hardly possible, and,
as the Democrats believe, Gratz Brown
can bo Johnsonized, Greeley, through
tho warm affection of his Southern
friends, will bo promoted to a hishi-r
seat than the Presidential chair befoie
ho serves his time out. This higher
promotion is what they mean when
they say "D n him, there may some
thing happen him if elected."
