Satuiiday Mokxino, Dec. 28, 1807.
School KximirrioN. TLo exhibition
of St. Mnry's Academy on Christinas
tive, wns u creditable performance.
Tlio hall was tastefully decorated with
tajiestry, tho bright colors of which
harmonized well with the flowers and
evergreens about the stage. These
evcrgrcotiB wore hung with numerous
gifts for tho girls. Tho singing, as
well as the execution on the piano
forte, wns very fair. Resides this,
there were several declamations and
dialogues in all of which wo were
struck with the distinct pronunciation
nnd clear, full voices of tho speakers.
One in particular called, wo believe
"Tho Orphan Children," was listened
to with attentive interest by a full
house. Altogether, this exhibition was
creditable alike to the talents of the
girls, and the skill and patience of their
.accomplished teachers.
Soaii on Siii:i:i'. We regret to learn
that many of the sheep raisers in the
upper end of the valley, have discov
ered this troublesome disease among
their Hocks. Fall or winter shearing,
and anointing with ''blue ointment" is
Miiil to be the iiiont effectual remedy,
l'or the information of all, we will state
that "blue ointment" is simply quick
silver and laiil well mixed. It is most
easily made by warming he lard and
then straining the quicksilver into it
through a piece of buckskin, until it
has absorbed enough to give it 11 dark
blue color.
