So many things ho told us, For which we ought to pray, That I forget them every one, Forgot them straight'a-way. Hut when ho read n text ah 1 Ono word of which was "Grace," That pet name of my Darling, Drought sunshine to my face Perhaps? I was too partial, For if the truth was known, I wanted hut ono blessing, And prayed for "Grace" alone. In the tumult of my feelings I sunk into nilo-c, Hut was wakened in a horrid state, Just cro the sermon's close. lie read another pasage, 1M rather been left out, Of prayers that isn't answered, And' how it comes about; Good Gracious! Jfiirry JlojnUtf. Our .Mexican Policy. Some- things have been already set tled in reference to our policy toward SIcxico, and it would be well to bear them in mind. Wo resolutely opposed and refused to recognize the Kurojiean intervention and the empire oi .Maxi milian. We refused the invitation to join that intervention. We demanded that the nation1) of Kuropo should let the .Mexicans alone to manage their own aflairs. We sturdily recognized the Mexican licpublic, mid upheld it oven in iu darkest hour. Wo declin ed to furnish it with military, naval or tliiaiici.il aid, or to a.-sumo its protec torate. Wo refused to allow Ortega to use our shore to ht out an expedi tion to disturb Mexico. Wo have twice purchased largo tracts of wild territory from tlio Republic, and there by furnished hor with largo sums of money to cuablo tlio government to maintain ordor. It seems to us, then, that the policy of tlio country towards Mexico is al ready established nnd needs only to bo continued hereafter; and in order to enlighten tlio minds of tlico who have been clamoring for a policy, we beg leave to stato the cottlcd points of our policy. 1. That foreign governments, osic ially Kuropean Monarchic, must keep their hands otV 3Ioxico and leave her peoplo to manage their own affairs. 2. That wo will not stand idly by and seo hor crushed by any interven tion oi tlio kind. a. That wo will not tolorato the pos session of tho country by any of the great powers of Kuropo, as it would compel U3 to maintain largo military forces along our borders. J. That wo will cling to tho republic ho long as it shall bo ablo to maintain an existence. 5. That wo will rofuso to rccognine any other form of governinont estab lished in Mexico without tlio free vol untary action of tho Mexican people, nor oven then if tho ropublio shall be upheld by any portion of tho Mexican people. 0. That whenover tho government of Mexico may bo disposed to soil any portion of tho territories of tho Hepub Ho contiguous to our own, and sparse ly settled, wo stand ready to purchase ou liberal terms. In our judgment this is polioy enough. It is about all wo can or should do for Mexico. "I wonder," said a Seotch maiden, "what my brother John sees in tho lasses that ho likes sao weel.
