We ask It, 1st, As a matter of equal justice to the people of Southern Orrgou. 2d,-iAs) n matterof military Importance and necessity. The contemplated route is the only practicable route, at all iraions of the year, to the Immense, fertile plains lylsg curt of the Itoguc Hirer and Cascade mountains. 3d, As a postal necessity. The distance from Jacksonville to the John I)jy mines does not exceed, on the line of this route, tiro hundred and fifty miles, '-from the John Day mines there arc good roads leading to all the principal mining localities io this Slate and Idaho Territory. 4th, As a matter of protection to cm! gration comlog to Southern Oregon. Fort Klamath Is situated within n convenient distance from this route, and Ihe soldiers tbero ran give ample protection to emigra tion coming to Southern Oregon upon ihh route.
