Ed. Skntinm. X The wand ol cnterpri
!ms crossed the 421 puraltel of north la
,tadc, and will soon be rcvcrbrtntitig u
tiro hills nroiind our town. We htme beet)
pitting, like Mlcuwber, tor twciyg years,
listening to the rushing tide of$ntcrprisc
nmong the fool-liilte of Nevadfa, and won
during whether il would Jftave courage
enough to cross the line undf turn up among
Us. That it has dona Boywill certainly be u
y. gratification to many fc-s.
, For several weeUs pust, parties from
ralifornln have own quietly investigating
our mineral resources and wutcr privileges,
and the result is the filing of articles of in
corporation', in the name of 0. Isenbcck,
Jacob Pcrmlon nnd Wm. Wilkins, und
thus srarting'into existence the M Independ
ent Water flilch tnd Mining Company."
The capital stock of the company is 880,
ffOft, which is all taken nnd the books
closed. The company consist of twenty
men, who are conversant with ditch and
mining enterprises, nnd are not afraid to in
vest Xheir own capital. The waters of Ap
plegatc will he conveyol to Sterling, Jack
sonville, Willow Springs and Iiluckwell
laggings. The work will commence In
the Spring, and the corporators say the
ditch wilt be finished as far as Sterling
next summer, and to this place by next
December.
The company have located several quartr.
claims, and intend to introduce improved
machinery to work them. Among their
tinmbcr arc practical nssaycrsand metallur
gists, who. it is hoped, will revolutionize
the present chronic system of quartz min
ing. We welcome this wave of enterprise
from the lower latitudes, and hope that
more of the same sort may cross the Siski
you, and ripple over our auriferous hills.
Water is the tonic we most want, to re
invigorate out mines, farms, towns and
trade, which for some time have been sub
joct to violent attack from relentless mort
gages. It is to be hnKd that the Inde
pendent Ditch and Mining Company will
bo able to supply "the" demand, and cause
the whole community to smile ooco mora in
a healthy manner.
We may now safely predict the culmina
tion of the rush to Boise and Reese rivers.
Tbe tide of rcstkva and feverish miners
that litis been flowing out for tho lust two
years to John Day, Florence, Boise, Wash
oc, Itmbnldt and Hceso River, will proba
bly set in next spring, with a strong cur
rent, and till up our almost depopulated
county. Already parties who contempla
ted a trip to the frigid Knno or regions of
sngc brush, huvo concluded to wait for the
-ditch, and tuke their chances in this genial
climate, where we have too mueh to eat.
There is soma little talk about quarts
ledges on the streets to-day, and it would
not Iks surprising to see a lively interest
manifested in that direction during tins
next year, for certainly, with improved ma
chinery and proper management, many
ledges in the country would pay well.
There is now some prospect for combi
nation of copitul to pursuo mining enter
prises, and it is to be regretted that our
Incorporation Law will only permit a non
resident to control his cnpitul in this State
toy proxy. He cannot be a director or
president of company, although he may
own throe-fourths of the stock. The law
should be amended. It should be the poll
tfof our State to invite foreigu capita
instead of driving it awny. Probably tho
noxtLegislaturo will not be scared at the
jghostyof monopoly, and will amend tho law
'in Jkt particular. Many Skttmciis.
Saw Spring. We are informed that
Mr. W. "W. Brown, has discovered a salt
spring on the northwest fork of Evans
Creek, air. Brown, has had, in the east
4rn States, considerable practico in the
manufacture of salt. Ho tested the water
of the spring, and found it so strongly im
pregnated that it required' but compara
tively little labor to make several hundred
pounds of superior salt. Wc understand
that'Mr. Brown intends to put such works
os wilj enuble him to munufucturc all the
salt required for this part of Oregon. Tho
success of such an enterprise will save
thousauds of dollars to Southern Oregon.

A miner named Burns, recently returned
to this place from Bannock city, says he
was robbed of six ounces of gold dust, on
Thursday night, at the Franco-American
sleeping rooms. He slept in a room in
which were n number or beds, all occupied,
carelessly laid his pants containing the
money on the floor. In the morning tlie
