On the 3d, pursuit was mudc to Oxfoid. nnd coming ueur the guard of the enemy, skir mishing took place, lusting about two hours, nnd resulting in the cunturc of some sixty rebels. The pursuit will be continued to-morrow. Sun Francisco, 6th. The California Rangers arc full, nnd will sail on the 11th. The opposition steamers have reduced the fare to New York. While there he hud frequent interviews with members of the Confederated Cubinet, and was admitted into many secrets of the rebel programme. Before leaving lie was sent for by J. P. Benjamin, who handed him letters for Gov. Seymour, and Fernan do Wood, of New York. Viillandinghuin and Cox of Ohio, Buyurd of Delaware, and a number ofothcr noted Democratic leaders. What they usk is the granting of an amnesty to all military and civil leaders of rebels, that the election of members of Congress may be had, nnd thut Congress may be culled together at leust as early as April. Fernando Wood, in a speech in New York, Saturday, said he hud received information und communicated it to Government, thut under certuin cir cumstances, the South wus ready to return. This came from leading statesmen ; men of position und influence in the Southern Con lederaey hud expressed a desire to return under Democratic rules, the pn9t to be forgotten, the public debt on both sides to bo provided for, nnd the y were willing to Itt bygones be bygones, if the North would, und the Union should once again bo res tored. The Texas Republican, of the 1st, suys that forty two men were executed, for belonging to a society whose object was tho surrender of the northern part of Texas to the Federals. Washington, fith. High authority states that the President has no knowledge of the Southern peace proposals, brought by I Harney, nor nns no receiven any communi cation from Fernando Wood. Dispatch from army of Potomac says, recent recon noissances discovered that no attempt will be made by enemy to hold the section at. mouth of Rappahannock, they having en tirely cvactuutcd that country with excep tion of small Fcnuting parties.
