¡1,e ¿J,lT iiUmes JACKSONVILLE, OREGON, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15, 1904. VOL. XXXIV. Rogue River Valley League. A PLU0KY WEAVES ENDURES A PAINFUL PERSECUTION^ Ownrsa Pursued by Mr. Hickey to Brine«» an Bad a Serious Interfareuce With Hie Work. The pluck which Mr. O. H. Hickey, a ootton weaver, of No. 3 Main street, Har ris, Rhode Island, exhibited in resisting an effort to drive him from his l«x>ma iu the Bernon Mills of Georgiaville, was truly remarkable. Every day his work was hampered more, and at its close he dragged him self to his home and was put to bed ex hausted and suffering to such an extent that sleep was impossible. Every morn ing he forced himself with heroic reso lution to resume his work. But the days went by without bringing him any re lief, until it became clear that even his remarkable will power could not loug sustain such fearful odds. His good wife became alarmed and both began to look eagerly for assistance. “My trouble came. I think,” says Mr. Hickey, “from the strong draught of odd air that played about my feet at my six looms. One foot swelled just abvwe the ankle, and the pain became something terrible. I forced myself to limp about during the day, but it was worst at night when I got home aud, as soou as I got my supper, I had to go to bed to get a- little relief.’ Besides the torture iu my foot I would have nervous jumping spells, shortness of breath and pain near my heart. “ I stood it as well as I could for three mouths, tryiug many medicines but all the time getting worse, until two friend» told me what wonderful virtue they had found in Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills for Pale People. One of them said they had cured his rheumatism and that he con sidered them ‘ the foremost of all reme dies.’ “Now, I bless Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills myself for the first box I took heitpd me and. after I had taken three boxes, the swelling went down and the pain and lameness left me for good. I have had no trace of the dreadful illness since." Obstinate cases of neuralgia, sciatica and even of locomotor ataxia, have also yielded to the same remedy, which is a specific for all diseases of the blood and nerves. These pills are sold by all drug gists throughout the world. C olorado baa experienced a loss of over $23,000,000, occasioned by strikes in that state during the past six months. The loss is charged up to union labor, which is now being driven from the state. T he National Good Road« Aseocia tion with 4000 delegates meets in Port' land next year. It is to be hoped that Oregon will be far enough advanced with her good-road« movement to be thoroughly interested In the con ven |ion. 1 — R ui &IA is about ready to sue for peace, Many dignitaries high in the councils of that nation are anxious that war shall cease. No doubt Japan is ready for adjustment of differences, provided Russia will do the right thing. That Tired Feeling Is a Common Spring Trouble. It’s a sign that the blood is deficient in vitality, just as pimples and other eruptions are signa that the blood is impure. It’s a warning, too, which only tbe hazardous fail to heed. Hood's Sarsaparilla and Pills Remove it, give new life, new cour age, strength and animation. They cleanse the blood and dear the complexion. Accept no substitute. “I felt tired all tbe time and could not sleep. After taking Hood's Sarsaparilla a while I could sleep well and the tired feeling had gone. This great medicine has also cured me of scrofula.’’ Mas. C. M. R oot , Gilead, Conn. a Hood's Sarsaparilla promlsoe $• cure and koopa the promiso. L ocal option has carried the State by about 3000. Tbe law as adopted provides for voting on tbe question of local option in tbe different counties at general elections, and some counties will have that opportunity next No vember. A remarkable FACT in connection with the monthly report of the super intendent of the Insane Asylum at Sa lem for May is the statement that not one of the 1350 inmates of that insti tution was in bed on account of elcknesa when the report was filed. S enator Q uay was a model husband and father, but bls political methods cannot be defended. Though dead and buried the Influence that has made Pennsylvania politics the most corrupt in this country still abides to be wres tled with. Measured by any high standard of right, Mr. Quay’s career was a pathetic failure. Ito I F xrzexi i funi? LEVI 5TRAU55 ¿rCO'S copper rireted overalls Oregon's Game Laws. THE NEW LEGISLATURE.
