Oiú¿olX Ur mo era tic JACKSONVILLE, OREGON, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 1903. VOL. XXXIII. AN OLD MINER IS ASSASSINATED Mrs. Dowd's Significant Warning to Mothers of Growing Girls. “ Mothers cannot be too careful of girls who are approaching womanhood,” says Mrs. D. F. Dowd, of Nephi City, Utah. She speaks from the ftftlnessof experience, for her own trouble began with the first critical time of her life. ••From the time I was sixteen years old,” she says, •• I suffered constantly from female weakness and my present good health is due eutirelv to Dr. Williams' Pink Pills, as you will see. I caught <x>ld,” she coutmued, “at a critical tune and endured tortures as a conse quence. My color became very bad, I was nervous and grew constantly worse. Then I b< gan to have palpitation of the heart aud mv bl<*od became in a wretched condition. I felt tired and languid all the time and was hardly able to get around at my work. ••None of tbe medicines that I tried madean v difference in my health. I was nearly discouraged when I heard from my uncle, Mr. J. Brandon, Sr., of Logue h, Manitoba, telling me that he had used Dr. Williams’ Piuk Pills with the great est benefit for nervousness. Then I de cided to try them myself, with the re sult that, after taking two boxes, I found I was much bett«4. A few boxes mors made me feel like an entirely different person and now I aiu able to do iny work with ease. All my friends know what good Dr. Williams’ Piuk Pills for Pale People have done for me.” Any woman who is ailing with the troubles peculiar to her sex should try Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills for Pale People. No discovery of modern times has proved such a blessing to women as these won derful vegetable pills. Acting directly on the blood and nerves, invigorating the body, regulating the functions, they r-store the strength and health in the exhausted patient when every effort of the phvsician proves unavailing. Dr. Williams'Pink Pills for Pale People have become famous all over the world on account of the wonderful results they have accomplished. They are not like ordinary medicines "and cannot be im itated. In order to protect the public against substitutes, the geuuine pills are •old only in boxes bearing the full name in the form of a trade-mark. They may be had at all druggists, or direct by mail at lfty cents per box; six boxes for two dollars and a half, from the Dr. Williams Medicine Company. Schenectady, N. Y ▲n Unknown Villain Shoots Down Wm. Dunlap in Cold Blood, for His Money. The people of Grant Pass were great ly excited Sunday to learn that a brutal murder had been committed al most within the very precincts of their town. While hunting for stock a man whose name we did not learn discovered the body of Wm. Dunlap, an aged miner, lying in a trail in Louse Creek district, about eight miles north of the county seat of Josephine county. The authorities were notified, and an Investigation showed that the murderer had shot down his victim without war ning, the bullet of his rifle hitting him in the left side and piercing his heart. Dunlap fell dead in his tracks without a struggle. His body must have laid there several days, as it was in an ad vanced state of decomposition when found. Who tbe assassin was will probably always remain a mystery. That rob bery was his motive is certain, for he had rifled the clothes worn by Dunlap and systematically searched every part of his cabin near by for money, throw ing everything on the floor that he did not want, including a certificate of de posit issued in his favor for 1120 by the First National Bank of Grants Pass. His loot was necessarily small—prob ably not more than •20—as the de ceased was possessed of very little cash besides that deposited in the bank. Dunlap was a veteran of the civil war and an inoffensive man, about 65 years of age. For a nunober of years he had lived alone at the scene of his murder, and engaged in placer mining in a small way. Dr. W. F. Kremer, coroner of Jose- phine county, held an Inquest Monday, which developed facts substantially as given above. What He le Charged With. T. A. Sylvester Johnson, for eleven years president of tbe Indiana State Horti - cultural Society, at a meeting held at Indianapolis, said: “I regard Oregon as pre-eminently the fruit state or the Union and its fruits better than those of California. This exhibit forever dispells tbe opinion that California ver the West th<y wear possesses superior advantages for fruit-growing to that of every other region on the Pacific slope. The Ore gon exhibit of apples, pears and Copper-riveted plurus was not only unequaled, but it excelled that of any other state. The fact may be noted that the larg est apples, tbe largest pears and the largest cherries exhibited at the Co lumbian exposition were grown in Oregon.” B ko .
