JACKSONVILLE, OREGON, WEDNESDAY, JULY 15, 1903.
VOL. XXXIII.
PARTIAL»®
Still Another Case Cured by Dr.
Williams’ Pink Pills.
The story of the cure of Henry J.
Hubbard, of Wittens, Ohio, from paraly
sis. will bring hope to others afflicted as
he was. Ho was helpless and utterly
discouraged. He had beeu getting
worse and worse, month by mouth.
First it made him unable to work, then
he could uot walk, then he euuld not
even raise a hand to feed himself; he
could not move any part of his body ex
cept his head.
“I heard of Mr. Lee F. Cypher, of Sis
tersville. a neighboring town in West
Virginia, who had been cured of par
alysis by Dr. Wiliams’ Pink Pills
for liile People,” says Mr. Hubbard
in telling the story of his cure, “ and
my sou took me over to see him. It
gave me new courage to hear him
tell how easily he found relief, for I
had given up hope of ever being able to
move again. I was perfectly helpless.
When I was first taken I was treated by
three physu-ians.one of them a specialist,
but I got worse instead of better. I
could both walk and feed myself when I
began doctoring with them, but finally
I could move nothing except niv head.
The doctors’ medicine caused my stom
ach to i«nn me a great deal; it didn’t
help me a bit, and, as I said, I got dis
couraged.
“ Then, after I saw Mr. Cypher, and
he told me that Dr. Williams' Pink Pills
for Pale People hud accomplished such
a wonderful cure in his case, I decided
to take this remedy myself. Iu about
three weeks after beginning with the
pills I noticed a change for the better.
Now I can walk and get around all
right.”
The first symptoms of partial paralysis
are: trembling of the bands; snaden loss
of power iu arms or legs, frequently af
fecting one whole side of the body; stag-
gering;pnrtial o: entire inability to’use the
fingers; distortion of the features, some
times an uncon I rollable quivering of the
chin ; severe paius; difficulty in speech.
Paralysis may be caused by exposure,
emotional influence, venereal excesses
and by other diseases. The approach of
the disease is generally gradual. Fre
quently the first warning is a vague feel
ing of headache, vertigo and inusculai
weakness. The best method of treat
ment is to restore the nutrition and vi
tality of the nerves by using Dr. Wit
hams’ Pink Pills for Pale People.
Joe Lane's Treaty Tree.
It is a matter for regret that the
landmarks of early Oregon history
have not been better preserved. Fea
tures whose interest would increase
with the years have been suffered to
be destri yed through ignorance or in-
diff rence. In 1853 there was some
trouble with the Rogue River Iudians,
though the a ar did not occur until
two years later. In 1853 General “J e"
Lane, whose fame is inseparably con
nected with the history of Oregon,-
made a tr*-itv with the Rogue River
Indians on a spot which is now in
cluded within the present city limits
of Grants Pass. Hemet the Indians
under a black oak tree on Rogue river,
just above the “White Rocks.” Old
timers are still able to point out the
stump of this tree, but the tree itself
has been cut down and sawed into
stove woi d in these latter years, prob
ably, by some mao who never heard of
Joe Laue.

Fruit Growers in Session.
The executive committee of the
Fruit Growers Union held an interest
ing meeting at the office of J. A. Perry,
in Medford, Saturday.
President
Bennett presided and there was a good
attendance. The buying of boxes and
other supplies was the main question
discussed. Most of the members of
the Union placed their orders, and a
large number of boxes, in which to
pack this season’s fruit crop, will be
bought by the purchasing agent, W.
H. Norcross. Doubtless a considerable
saving can be effected by this co-opera
tion. An assessment amounting to 25
per cent of the capital stock of the
Union was levied. The proceeds will
be used for current expenses, etc.
There is already no doubt that this
organization will prove a decided sue
cess, in more ways than one. lta next
regular meeting will be held on the
last Saturday in this months.
