The Story i» T.Id by a Fa the, who Is
Grateful for Hl» Daughter'»
Recovery.
No. 91 Lincoln Avenue,Cortland,N.Y.,
was once a house of sorrow and sadness.
Tho daughter of George Loucks, the
pride of the household, seemed going in
to a decline as she reached her early
womanhood and her condition caused
the greatest anxiety in the family. The
happy ending of the matter caused con
siderable excitement in the neighborhood
and. when questioned by a reporter, Mr.
Loucks made the following statement;
“ About two years ago my daughter,
who was then in her sixteenth year, wm
in bad health. She was pale and thin,
without strength or vitality, in fact her
condition was that which is generally
called all run down. We were, of course,
worried about her and employed the best
physicians to attend her. They studied
her case and although they did every
thing possible, gave her no relief which
was permanent. The late Dr. Angle had
first called my attention to Dr. Williams’
Pink Pills for Pale People, and my wife
had heard they were a fine tonic, so we
decided to try them for my daughter.
We did so and insi.le of eight weeks the
primary cause of her troubic _vas remov
ed and she showed a decided gain in
health, strength and flesh.
“ A great many people will buy a med
icine and take a few doses. Then if they
are not cured they throw it aside aa no
gixxi, or take it sjasmodically. We be
lieve in a fair trial in strict accordance
with directions and our faithfulness was
reworded for she was greatly benefited
by them. Her color came to her cheeks
and she continued to gain in weight and
strength. We have told a gnat many
people about them and have been glad to
do so.”

The Shrinkage of England.—«'
With regard to the east coast a sorry
story has to be told, the county ot
Yorkshire, for instance, from Bridling

of six feet a year. It is said that care
ful observation of a certain 12 mile
stretch shows that the cliffs 40 feet
high have been eaten away by the
waves for 132 feet in 40 years. It is,
however, at Spurn Head that the great
est ravages have taken place.
In Edward I’s time the village of
Ravenspur, a seaport near Spurn Head,
sent more than one member to par-
liament; tn 1396 and 1471 Henry IV
aud Edward IV, respectively, landed
there, but very soon after the latteris
visit the entire town was swept away
by the sea. Today the village of Kiln

American women separate them
selves more each year from the life of
the country and affect to smile at any
of their number who honestly wish to
be of service to the nation. They, like
the French aristocracy, are perfectly
willing, even anxious, to fill agreeable
diplomatic posts at first class foreign
capitals, and are naively astonished
when their offers of service are not ac
cepted with gratitude by the authori
ties at Washington. But let a husband

The hoofed animals, like the horse
and the stag, have, strictly speaking,
no feet, for they walk on their nails,
and their feet have tiecomepart of their
legs. The advantage seems to be a
lengthening of the stride. Just as a
trained athlete learns to run on his toes
to Increase his pace. There is also the
further advantage of no soft part to
be Injured by contact with the ground.
Some monkeys have four hands, which
must be a great advantage in climbing.
The absence of legs as well as feet is
an advantage to many animals that
have to travel rapidly through the
water or between the branches of trees
or other obstructions.
Legs would be but an obstruction to
the tadpole while he swims by means
of his powerful tail, but when he
leaves the water legs and feet become
an advantage. So the snake is able
to creep through underwood and into
small holes with far greater ease with
out legs, and even the slow worm
which seems such a helpless animal on
flat ground, can creep through a Ledge
with remarkable eaae and speed. The
