The Memphis Scimitar tells of a re
cent bride whose busband noticed that
she was keeping an itemized account
of the household expenses. In looking
it over one day he noticed at the bot
tom of each page or two the letters
“D. K. W.” This somewhat puzzled
him. He really found it very difficult
to keep from thinking about what
these letters could possibly mean. It
occurred to him that possibly his wife
was saving out some money to buy
something for him. But then he knew
that his initials were not “D. K. W,”
and this did not prove a satisfactory
solution to the matter.
So one day when his wife was In a
real good humor he took her in bis
arms and asked what she meant by
"D. K. W, 50 cents,” "D. K. W„ $1”
and the like.
She replied: *“D. K. W.’ stand for
’don’t know what.’ Whenever 1 went
to balance my account at the end of
each page aud found 1 had spent mon
ey fot which 1 could not account, 1
jujt put In a sufficient amount, with
the item ‘D. K. W.,’ to make it balance
just exactly.”

HUMOR OF THE HOUR.
It was during Justice Sellers’ receiv
ing hours in his warrant chamber.
Several people with supposed griev
ances had left his august presence
bearing pleased expressions and little
slips of paper that entitled them to
complaints, when suddenly the door
was jerked open roughly, and an agi
tated Individual with a frost coated
mustache and long, wind tossed hair
appeared at the threshold. He gazed
stupidly at the justice for a moment
and then suddenly exclaimed:
“Is there any justice in Detroit?”
“Yes,” calmly replied Sellers. “I am
a justice myself.”
“Is there a gentleman left In De
troit?” continued the man, coughing
out his words in guttural indignation.
“J ust a few of us left,” was his hon
or’s rejoinder.
“Are you an enlightened citizen?”
“Hope so.”
“Well, I was born In Kentucky, but
I’m an Irishman. Shake! It’s an in
sult to every citizen of Detroit, and I
want the traitor brought to justice!
Fetch the traitor to justice and redeem
tbe fair name of the city!”
“What is it you want?” asked the
perplexed justice. “Want a warrant
for somebody, or do you take this for

convention hall?”
“Well, a man was robbed of $50, and
i want the villain brought to justice."
“Are you an Interested party?”
“Interested party? No, sir! No,
slree! I’m a violinist. Sir, I have
studied with the greatest masters of
Europe.
Interested party Indeed!
I’m a violinist, sir—yes, sir! And If I
can’t have justice here I’ll go some
place else. Yes, str!”
And the distinguished violinist strut

“Oh, well, then, you have a photo

“No; I don’t got no fottograf of him

“Weil, how do you expect me to paint
the portrait of your father when 1 can
not see him and have nothing to give
me an idea of his appearance?"
