A curious fact. On the tenth day of the trial of Wool folk, at Macon, Ga. ,for the murder of 9 of his family, the jury was charged at noon and in twenty minutes brought in a ver dict of guilty. Tlie prisoner was sen tenced to hang February 10th. The Oregon A California road, which had a debt of 110,000,000 when bought lately by Stanlord, Huntington and Crocker, will shortly be taken out of the hands of the receiver. The bond-hold ers will receive a new issue of long-time bonds at a reduced rate of interest. A petrified salmon has been found in California on a hillside 4,.">00 feet high. The fleshy part resembles crystalized va riegated quartz,retaining in part the. yel lowish color ot the salmon, and what was the skin of the fish is now a sort of jxjrcelain, or white flint. It assays 417.48 in gold and |38.76 in silver. The fire at Wakefield, Mich., which destroyed foity buildings, started in the theater. Somebody threw a frozen cab bage at a monkey which appeared in the play. Ttie animal in retaliation threw a lighted lump toward the audience. The lamp struck the stage and set it on fire. There was a wild rush to get out. San Francisco has more representa tives in the United States senate than any two other cities in the country. The California senators, Stanford and Heaist, have residences in San Francisco, as have also the Nevada senators, Stewart and Jones. Stewart practises law at the San Francisco bar and Jones is a mem ber of tiie San Francisco stock exchange. In tbe national house of representa tives recently Dutharn of Illinois in troduced a bill appropriating $150,000 to build an air-ship to convey passengers through the air. The bill was referred to the committee on ventilation. It was probably feared that any othef com mittee would smother the bill, the ship or the passengers. A total eclipse of the moon July 22-23 will be viable here, the middle of the eclipse occurring at 6:36 p. m. An action has been commenced in the San Francisco superior court by one Lynch against the Orejouian publishing company and II. L. 1’ittock to recover 120,900 damages. The alleged libel con sisted of the statement published in the ^>reyo»iian several months since to the effect that Lynch had been in the Ore gon penitentiary.
