all agreed should be built. The Demo­
crats, relyingBololy on American inven­
tive genius, insisted on adopting Erics­
son’s new torpedo boats and the con­
struction of cruisers carrying the Z.ilina-
ku dynamite gnus, which have been de-
veloped under the superintendence of
the present administration. The Re­
publicans on the other hand advocated
building large ships, in order to give
