Butler recently discussed the Western elections at length, and foretold a I) 'inocratie victory in November in In-( diana, ami prophesied a sweeping suc I cess along the line. He said: “There is no earthly doubt that Indiana is Democratic. The loss of the State is largely attributed to repeaters, brought ' ■ fif * i there by Republicans. One man took ty from Alexandria.Virginia, ami another j twenty from the New York Custom- , I House. I New York. Oct. 16.—The National Democratic Committee ¡»elieves that Han i cock is all of 5.060 stronger in Indiana I than Landers. The Hbr/</ attributes the loss in Indiana to local disaffection«, the Indiana Supreme Court decision and bad financial record of Landers in the State. The Democratic column in November will be much stronger. Senator Randolph of Now Jersey says the result in Ohio and Indiana will not affect chances of Demo cratic success in his State. h<* lias lieen obliged to obey the law as made by the Democratic Congre-s. Let us take a glanoe at >.oine of these results as a comparison between the las, “unadulterated” R iJical a.lmimstr.it ion and the administration with a full Demo crat c Congressional control. Take, first, the rec sipts: For 1875. un der Grant, the receipts of customs wert <157.167.722; under II ives they wet< .<186.522,064- an im-rease of 829,354.342. In 1875 the internal i< venue receipti- «■(•reSl 10,0b< ,4i’3; in 1880 th-i ■ si 000.373- an increase of 8T3,'cJ2.< 81 ’-0. In 187'» the total revenues from all sources were $ 284,020,7.1; in 1880 they were 8333,526,610- an increase of $!9,5i’!5‘•'üii. Now turn to the expenditures: In 1875 the war «lepartnu nt cost >'41.120 1'45; in 1880, under Haves, it cost 83*, 116.916 -a decrease of 83,003,729. In 1875 the na\ \ •ost 821.497.626; in 1>SO it cost 813.526X 981--a decrease of $7,960,642. In 1875 the Indian Bureau cost $>v38i,656; in 1S-V it cost $5,945,457 -a decrease of $2 139.- 209. In 187.» the total exjx*nditures were 8278,693,573, and in 1880 they were $267, 642.959 —a ileereaso of $11,050,614. This decrease in the total expenditures would have been much larger but for the increase of pension payments in 18SI) over those in 1875- tin1 only item in which there was an increase. In 1<75 the pei - sion payments wm-e 829.456.216; in l‘v>o they were $56,371,958. Leaving out this pension item the decrease in ex; enflilnret* would have b en 8 >2,.371 ,'.'2 for the y< a •. This shows the economy practiced bv the Democratic Congress, and this is a fore taste of the economy that would rule the councils of a full Democratic government with the executive, the a.’ministration and legislature as one. The matter is worth thinking about. B rick vs. J. B. W eaver .—This man Weaver is a native of Dayton, Ohio, and a cousin of James A. Garfield. He is a Republican disguised as a Grecnbacker and nothing else. He has been a Repub lican oflieeholder under the State govern ment of Iowa where he now resid( s, and was for six years and until the office w;c. abolished, Assessor of Internal Revenues for the first district of Iowa un 1er ¡he He publican federal administration. This is the same Weaver who urged the Gn'en- backers of Georgia to unite with the Re publicans there, that victory might perch on the fusion banner. In Maine, how- ever, he tells his Greenback friends not to stand in on the fusion electoral ticket composed of four Greeubuekers and three Democrats. In short he is doing all in his p?wer to secure the election of his cousin, DeGolyer Garfield. No wonder Brick I’omeroy will have nothing to do with this Republican hireling. G arfield was a great soldier. He was in the army just twenty-eight months, and in that limo wps away on leave of ab sence thirteen months. While his divis ion was fighting lie was stumping bis State for Congress, and the roll reported him “absent on account of sickness.’’ That is bis war record. In referring to the efforts of the Repub lican leaders to disparage Gen. Hancock's A ll the Grcenl a.-kers of Republican military record. Gen. McCook, of Gen. antecedents voted the straight R ’pnldican Sherman's staff, the famous fighting Gen ticket in Indiana on the 12th, and Demo eral of Ohio, recently said: “There is not cratic Greenbackers now swear they are a soldier walks the earth with a better going to veto for Hancock.
