tion should tie unbounded, fur it can

County Finance«.
The annual exhibits of the County
Clerk and Treasurer were last week
submitted to the Commissioners and
may be found in our advertising col
umns. A glance at the figures shows
that the county is nearly $10,000 in
debt, an increase of over $4,000 during
the fiscal year. This augmentation of
our indebtedness is mainly due to an
unusual amount of criminal business
and extra expense incurred in re
pairing and constructing roads and
bridges. To counterbalance this debt
there are assets amounting in the ag
gregate to $5,553 86, consisting of
claims against Like and Josephine
counties (which will be paid in time)
and cash in the Treasury. This, sub
traded from the apparent indebted
ness, would leave a deficit of over
$4,000. It is therefore quite evident
that even under ordinary circumstan
ces it will he sometime before Jackson
county will be able to pay her war
rants upon presentation.
