P. Prim........................... FOR STATE SENATOR: J. E. Ross............................. NEIL PROSECUTING ATTORNEY ! HOOT, KELLY! Although dissensions and treachery iu Democratic ranks bas deprived the party of a substantial victory throughout the State, still there are »pvpral instances wherein there in cause tor rejoicing. Whiteaker has beeu elected Congressman by a large majority, making a difference of two in favor of the Democracy. A Demo cratic successor to Mitchell is assured, another gain. In this Judicial Dis trict J. R Neil is elected Prosecuting Attorney, Josephine county giving him 97 majority, which leaves him but 27 behiud, with Lake to hear from, that is good for considerable more. Every county in the State has done nobly, with the exception of Baker and Jackson, and they have disgraced the fair record they once enjoyed. In Ibis county the rout is complete, al though we have saved the Treasurer and School Superintendent from the wreck. The whole matter sinks into insig niflcance, however, when we realize the f.ct that old Jackson, until now the banner county of Oregon, bas gone back on her traditions and perhaps de feated the Democratic candidate for Governor, without the shadow of a rea son fordoingso. Nothing could be more humiliating to the Democracy of this county, and certainly none can say aught against the righteous indigna- tiou manifested in the premises by the press aud our brethren of the bulance of the State. The election has evinced that Ore gon is not Republican by considerable. The Presidential election was no elite- rioo, for now, upon an increased vote, an entire Democratic victory is only thwarted through reasons the party itself is accountable for. The presence of the Greenback movement has also weakened the Democracy to an extent quite perceptible. Our partial defeat is therefore not surprising. The cam paign was made against great odds, and while we might have done better we certainly could have done much worse. • IIS............... ......... ■ Otttelal Vote of Joaephtne. We are io receipt of the official vote of Josephine county, which will ap* pear in our next issue. Thayer re ceives 49 majority; Whiteaker, 84; Reaines, 55; Brown, 74; Noltner, 65; titites, 67; Neil 97. For Representative Caldwell has 85 majority over Watts, while the balance of the conuty ticket is elected by majorities ranging from 21 to 154—excepting the Judge and* one Commissioner. Kerby ville bas a majority of 26 for county seat. The Greenbackurs polled 73 votes for the highest candidate on tbeir State ticket. The unflinching Democracy of Jose phine has achieved a brilliant victory. Quit« Dlaphauoui. The contortions of our cotemporary over the defeat of Mr. Donegan are quite amusing. Attempting to excuse bis party fur its action in the prem ise«, he seeks to throw the responsibili ty where it does not belong. He ad mits that Mr. Fisher is a strong mao, but at the same time neglects to add that Mr. Donegan was slaughtered in the bouse of his pretended friends. And why? The vote of such strong Republican precincts as Ashland, Pfece- nix and Manzanita, tell the tale. Mor« Opposition. It is now announced that another line of ocean steamers will be put on the route between San Francisco and Portland, This will be good news for the public at large, but is rather tough lor the other steamship companies.
