    A farmer in San Joaquin county, Cal.,
has invented a machine which at one opera
tion cuts, threshes ami sacks grain at the
rate of thirty acres a day. Four men and
twelve horses do the work. The machine
cuts a swath sixteen feet. As the sacks are
tilled and sewn up they are dropped on the
ground, and subsequently hauled to the
warehouse. This prodigy of labor-saving
machinery is not a theory or an experiment,
but it is p.n actual operatioh. The cost of
cutting, threshing and sacking is said to be
only titty cents on an acre.

SORROW.
Out of darkness cometh dawning.
Songs and mirth e’er follow mourning;
The peak where latest lingers light
Will soonest drop the robes of night.
So. Sorrow's crown of thorns, in time.
Shall bloom in buds and flowers divine.
Friend Sorrow! sweet tho’ sad thou art;
Come! of our lives take thou a part.
The soil can ne’er yield ample crop
Till plow and harrow break it up.
Break thou our hearts, and gently rain
The tears of love upon our pain.
Sweet sister! lend a guiding hand
To climb Life's hill, till sate we stand;
For better thou with mournfulness
Than pleasure’s empty promises.
From God, meek angel, thou «lost come,
To lead llis weary children home.
Conghs it ml <ol«ts.
