Has anybody heard that tho coopers who
have been making barrels for Tilden’s
money struck for higher wages after 3,796
barrels had been shipped away, and that
old Tilden refused to accede to their de
mands ? This is a shocking outrage.
The largest Democratic vote ever cast in
Vermont, previous to this year, was 16,613
in 1873. This year the official count will
show a Democratic vote of between 22,000
and 23,000. So in Maine, notwithstanding
the extra efforts of Blaine it Co., the Demo
cratic vote is larger than ever before.
Hayes was a furious Know-Nothing, and
this, coupled with their desires for reform,
accounts for the fact that nine-tenths of the
circulations of all the German papers and
a larger percentage of German voters are so
enthusiastic for Tilden and Hendricks.
“Sitting Bull” read that “order” of Grant’s,
and with much satisfaction, lie always did
believe the worst savages were down South,
and congratulates himself that the Presi
dent at last agrees with him that the pres
ence of tho army is most needed in that
section.
The Radical managers expect to get an
average contribution of $30 from every Ad
ministration office-holder, which will fur
nish them a corruption fund of about $3,000,-
000. Hayes is no doubt aware of what is
going on, but never a protest will be heard
from his lips, lie is not “that kind of a
cat.”
All sorts of slanders against Gov. Tilden
are being invented by his assailants in the
Republican press. Nine out of ten of these
slanders are too absurd to need contradic
tion. In the mean time, while this is going
on, we are glad to seo that the Democratic
press refrains from making false and slan
derous charges against Gov. llayes.—A'. V.
