C uriosities .—M. A. Houston this
week left with us a couple of curiosities
in tho shape of two rocks, one of
which shrws evidence of having been
drilled into by the aborigines of this
section. In the other may be plainly
seen a petrified leaf, the outlines of
which are unmistakable. Mr. Hous­
ton also left a piece of fine ore from
tho cinnabar ledge situated in the
Evans Creek Mining District, in which
ho is interested.

this week showed us a piece of cinna­
bar ore from the ledge of the Strong
brothers, on little Applegate, which is
among the richest specimens wc have
yet seen. They have erected a fur
nace for tho reduction of ore, which
is ready for use as soon as the weather
will permit operations, It is of brick
and hr.s a capacity of retorting four-
teen tons daily. Tho ledge is about
ninety feet wide, and should the fur-
nace prove a success , the owners have
a big thing in sight.
