The loss is estimated at $3,000, which falls very heavy on the losers. It was with the greatest difficulty and only by the strenuous exertions of Mr. Slosson, who arrived while the fire w ’ ha in progress, that the mill was saved. The fire originated from one of the mill hands carelessly setting a pile of slabs afire, which rapidly com municated to the lumber and destroyed it The firm has met with a series of misfortunes since they constructed the mill but with commendable energy they propose starting to work imme diately and retrieve their losses. was supposed that the dead man was a person known as Rancheria Clark, as he left Wetterer’s brewery at about 9 o’clock on the evening of July 31st, leaving his horse, since which time he had not been seen.
