Standard says : “Two young men, one of them residing in the northern part of this county, and the other in the southern part of Steele county, were each enam ored with the same young lady. The affections of the young lady were a I »out equally divided between the two. Hard words and blows failed to settip the difficulty. As a last resort, the Freeborn county man agreed to re linquish all his right and title to the fair damsel for the sum of $100. The other chap refused, and Freeborn county showed a willingness to do the fair thing, by then offering to give $100 and take the disputed property himself. Steele county scorned the offer. Our man raised, the bid to $125, which was not accepted. One hun dred and fifty dollars failed to reach him, but when the bid was raised to $160 it proved too much for his cupid ity, and with eagerness he cried out, “Take her.” All this time the ex pectant bride stood looking on, an in different spectator, apparently caring not whether Freeborn or Steele county finally came out ahead. The winning man finally gave his note for $160, with the bride’s father as indorser, and the marriage took place without any. unnecessary delay. And now we un derstand the parties propose to resist the payment of the note on the ground of ‘no value received.’ ” UEXERAL NOTE« AN» NEWS. F. K. ARNOLD. T. A.
