THE I.ANT CONCERT POSTPONED.
NEW, THIS WEEK.
LEGAL ADVERTISEMENTS,
Salem is going to have a National
Bank. Perhaps.
The vegetable garden at the Peni
tentiary, near Salem, is said to be the
best in the State.
Henry P. Ankeny, the largest cheese
maker in Marion county and Oregon,
is now milking 135 cows and making
200 pounds of cheese daily.
Farmers will scarcely credit the fact
that the threshing of grain in Ump
qua Valley only costs three cents per
bushel. This is the price for thresh
ing wheat, oats and barley.
A company has been organized
which proposes to build an oil mill on
the farm of J. W. Nesmith, in Polk
county. The mill will be ready to
operate on next year’s crop.
The announcement of the postponement
of the Idist Gift Concert of the Public Li-
brarv of Kentucky will not surprise the
public. In Governor Bramlette’scard, pub
lished below, he gives reasons for it which
will be accepted without question by every
one. The management in this instance,
consulting the interests of ticket holders
and those designing to become ticket hold
ers, have not waited until the last day to
make this announcement, but just as soon
as they became satisfied of the necessity of
this postponement, have promptly made
the announcement. It is Unnecessary tore-
view the causes which have necessitated
this action, as they are fully recited in Gov
ernor Bramlette’s card. The promptness
and frankness with which the public have
been made aware of the intention of the
manager will meet with the hearty com
mendation of every one, and excite such a
new interest and confidence in the scheme
and the ability of the manager to perform
what he promises, that thero can be no
doubt that on the day specified the last con
cert will be a full one.
