The winter fightshave commenced in earnest, several citizens having indulged in a social set-to this week. No serious damage done. sam . coi vides (1ÍEDEYHALS. Mr. Sum. Colver has handed us for publication a crazy-looking paper, writ ten in pencil-mark, mutilated, begrimed and exceedingly difficult to decipher, which, owing to the press of other mat ter, has been omitted in the two preced in’' issues. This paper purports to be a letter written by Major John Green, of the l>t Cavalry, and a telegram to Mc Connell A- McManus, of Yreka, from Ma jor-General E. R- S. Canby, or the “au thority” under which he stampeded with the Hot Creek Indians for Capt. Jack’s camp, all being written and signed in the same handwriting. We doubt the the genuineness ol the signatures to this paper, well knowing that no military of ficer would sign any paper in such a shape. It may, however, have been in tended by the writer to be a copy of the original, and this is probably the case); but if so, the bad orthography, supera bundance of capitals and want of punctu ation, shows the copyist to be as illiterate as Colver himself. We have corrected the ba«! spelling, etc., and guessing at such words as we are unable to decipher, we present the document to our readers in the best shape possible : Mi i . d W in ter .—The winter up to the present time has been rather mild, but H eadquarters F t .
