ôThç .Liemorratiq Sames. THE CAUSE AND THE RESULT votes to effect it. Throughout the State the same causes have produced like ef , fects. Grover’s wild mania for the U. 8. ! Senatorship has created local feuds and j internal dissensions in the Democratic < organization, and has lost us Douglas, Ijane and almost every county in the | State. In Polk county, the Representa , tives were anti-Groverand were elected; the Senator was a Grover man and went , straight to defeat. He and his Ring con trolled the Dalles Convention, and the re , sult was a platform which excited uni versal derision. Literally, it had nothing in it but an eulogy of Grover’s administra tion, and the good acts of that Adminis tration are too few and far between to constitute a platform for any party to stand on. He made the Lock and Dam Bill and other measures, which were not political, a part of the platform, commit ted the Democratic party of Oregon to the fortunes of his Ring, and forced an issue with the Radicals on his adminis tration. They joined issue with him, and the result is an unmistakable con demnation of his administration by the popular voice. This election has not on ly buried Grover, his Ring and his Ad ministration, but has damned the whole ‘caboodle’ besides. His treachery to Dela- zon Smith in 1859 laid him on the shelf for ten years ; his treachery to the Democrat ic party in this campaign has given him an eternal quietus. He deserves it. He is to cold-blooded to care for his friends ; too selfish to care for anybody but him self; too brainless to lead a great party, and too sordid to gain high-minded coun sellors. In fact, as a politician, he is so contemptible that even now, as he lays in his cerements, prepared for burial, it would be ridiculous to murmur over his remains the last sad prayer of the church. Requiescat in pace. He is so dead there is not enough of him left to be restless. THE HOMESTEAD LAWS. THE LOWEST DEPTHS OF INFAMY.
