This remedy is composed of the active principle of the Unk Weed, Eng.—Thaspiuiu Cordatuni Originis, Lat.—Indigenous to Oregon. Grows most abundantly »nd perfectly in Washington Co. railroad, is worth reading by those who have had a similar experience, without a like good humor: “Twenty minutes for dinner !” shouted the brakesman as we approached Xenia. Arrived there, I entered the dining room and enquired of the waiter : “What do you have for dinner?” “Twenty minutes,” was the hurried reply. I told him I would try half a dozen minutes, raw, on the half-shell, just to Bee how they went. Told him to make a minute of it on his book. He scratched his head, trying to comprehend the or der, but finally gave it up and waited up on some one else. I approached a man who stood near the door, with a roll of money in his hand. “What do you have for dinner?” “Haifa dollar,” said he. I told him that I would take half a dol lar, well done. I asked him he couldn’t send me, in addition, a boiled pocket book stuiTed with greenbacks, and seven thirties garnished with postage stamps and ten cent scrip. Also a confederate bond, broken down with lettuce alone (let us alone.) I would like to wash my dinner down with National Bank Notes, on “draft.” He said they were out of everything but the bank notes, and he then ordered the waiter to go to the bank and “draw some.” P hiladelphia turns out a batch of young doctors every moon to prey upon the people. One of them settled at Ha vana, Ills., anil hung out his shingle. The first ease he had was a boy, who, while shelling pop-corn, got a kernel in his wind-pipe. The doctor examined the case carefully, looked at the patient’s tongue and then told the father of the boy to build up a hot fire. When that was done the doctor told them to take the boy anti hold him over the fire until the kernel got hot enough to “pop out.” The old man went up stairs and got his shot gun, but while he was loading it the doctor escaped. He has a diploma, though, from a Philadelphia college, and said he had cured lots of cases in that way. A n U nlucky B enedict .—Thos. Fran cis, of Albany, has been particularly un fortunate in marriage. His first wife killed herself thirty-four years ago ; nine years after his second sjrouse ran away from him and died of destitution in Illi nois; six years later his third consort was drowned. In 1858 his fourth help mate was killed, and he having been con victed of the murder, was sent to prison for life, but was pardoned out. In another decadO the fifth partner of his bosom mys teriously disappeared ; and very recently the sixth wedded idol of his soul sought peace and oblivion by hanging herself to a bedpost. The accumulation of years and experience having made Fancis a philosopher, he bears his connubial be reavement with fortitude. A young lady writes from Leaven worth to the Chief of Police at Kansas City as follows: “There is a man in your place named Johnny Bascombe, who is in love with me, and who was driven away from our house last week by my old father, who drives away every one who comes to court me. Please, for my sake, find out Johnny and give him my picture which I inclose to you, and tell him that I will stick to him, father or no father, and if you ever come up here I will come to see you and thank you. Just tell Johnny that his Julia sent him the picture, and he will know it all.” T he United States harbors thirteen thousand tooth-tinkers. 'tlOIIB. COMPOUND FLUID Delivered to nt y address.
