Every moment of our lives, every part of our bodies is wearing out and is l>eing built up anew of Fresh mat ter. This work is accomplished by the blood, which goes through every part. But if the blood becomes week, or viti ated, and does not perform its work prop erly, the system is actually poisoned by the worn out matter, cloging the vital or gans, instead of leaving the body. For dyspepsia, biliousness, kidney, skin and liver troubles, fevers, and all diseases arising from vitiated blood, D r . W al ker ’ s C alifornia V inegar B itters are a sovereign remedy. D eserted .—We are informed that the expressman carrying the mail and ex press between this city and Fort Klam ath deserted on last Saturday night. He had arrived within seven miles of the poet when he sent in the express by an other man and betook himself to parts unknown. When he sent in the express he forgot to send in the horse he was riding, which belongs to the United States. He rode it off in a fit of absence of mind. This man has been in the hab it of circulating calumnies derogatory to the characters of the officers at the post, and, being discovered, anticipated severe punishment by a sudden leave without absence. We learn that several of the cavalry and infantry stationed at the Fort have recently deserted. NEVER FAILS TO CURE.! unk BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS vegetable substances—the D eath of H on . T. H. B. S hipley .— On last Wednesday this sad announce ment fell unexpectedly upon our commu nity. From an illness of a few weeks previous he was deemed convalescent, but was taken suddenly ill on Tuesday evening and breathed his last about one o’clock the next morning. Judge Shipley was a native of Mary land. He came to Oregon in the Spring of 1861, and made his home in this coun ty, and has since occupied prominent po sitions, having been elected to the office of School Superintendent in 1868, and at the subsequent election of 1870, he was elected to the responsible position of County Judge, which he filled at the time of his death. His course while here had been marked by the variest energy and perseverance, and he was proving himself a man of rare business tact, which, with his felicitous domestic relations, a prosperous and happy career seemed to await him. But stem death has taken him away in the midst of his appreciated toils, from an amiable wife and two in teresting little children. In his death society has lost a good member, and the county a useful and an esteemed citizen. To the stricken ones we tender our sin cerest sympathies. Peace to his ashes, and rest to his soul. W hat a D ifference .—Yes, what a difference ! now and when the pioneers kept moving westward, improvements and science following in their wake. See the contrasts—from the sickle to im proved reapers, flails compared to thresh ing michines, mud wagons to railroads, and our thoughts by lightning flash from one part of the globe to the other. In our healing arts we are advancing with the same rapidity ; calomel compared to one a poison to the system while the other performs it function without any inconvenience, leaving the patient cured as if by magic. The Liver King—a vegetable, palatable remedy—is now being introduced and is rapidly taking the place of pills and nau- siating medicines. It is, without doubt, one of the most valuable family remedies of our age. DIED. SHIPLEY—In this city, Aug. ICth, 1871, Hon. T. H. B. SHIPLEY, in the 30th year of his age.
