have been visited the past week with warm

B ridge B roken .—Ou Wednesday last, as
Mr. Myers, of Yreka, was driving cattle
across the Evans creek bridge when it give
way, killing 4 head of steers, 3 yearlings an I
crippling two more large steers. Fortu­
nately no person was on the bridge at the
^bridge at the time of the crash. The. au­
thorities have been very vigilant in this re­
spect, yet with all their efforts several bridges
have been broken; we think this mainly due
to the fact that e«ery bridge in the county
heretofore built, has been built more with a
view to cheapnes than durability. The re­
sult is that the county has been mulcted in
damages to the tune of $500—in the “Mi­
nor" case—with other cases in embryo. We
have go »d reasons to believe that the era of
cheap bridges is at an end ; the present
County Commissioners are determined to
have good roads and good crossings. So
