HILLSBORO
THURSDAY.
THE WHEAT YIELD.
The October report of the Depart
ment of Agricultural at Washington
says the Oregonian indicates a re-
duction below the average wheat
yield in the United States of about
one-sixth, while the quality U said
to have baea somewhat suparior.
Every section of the Union indicates
a reduced product, except the Mid
dle States, which increased about 2
per cent. The New England States
fell off -4' per cent; tlio South At
lantic 'States 2 per cent; the Gulf
States 27 per ceut; the inland States
8 percent; the States noifh of the
Ohio river 14 per cent; the States
west of the Missisippi river 27 . per
cent; the Pacific States nearly 2 per
cent. These 6gi.r-.fl3. point to a yield
of about 240,009,000 bushels. .The
yield in 1873 was estimated at 203,
000,000 bushels. The falling off in
the Pacific States is nearly all
charged to Oregon as California is
credited, and properly so, with a full
average yield. The report is based
upon the yield per acre in this State
and 9 perhaps nearly correct, but it
deemed by good judges here that
the surplus will bo quite as great as
in 1875, there having been a mush
larger acreage planted.

Bound to Have It Short, Sharp and
Decisive A Hillsbore Attorney
- In Trouble.
- To render the note which .we pub
lish below intelligible to our readers
we will explain by saying that it is
perhaps well known in .this county
that a couple, who could not couple,
who lived on the line between Wash
ington and Yamhill counties "split
the blanket" and the wife applied to
the circuit court at the last May
term in this county for a divorce,
which "iras rerulerly opposed by her
husband and although they quarreled
whenever they met during court
week they "made it up," paid their
attorneys and court expenses and
went home. All was now .lovely and
the goose was, etc. Tho turtle-dove
cooed to her mato aid the doodle
bug sang love songs to the festive
tadpole. . But such bliss could
not Iat forever, for in two brief
days this couple parted and the hus
band departed, whence this witness
deponeth not. And now comes this
letter from the wife to her former
attorney and talks in this kind of
style:
Yamhill Co., Oregon,
Nov., 11, 187G. )
- : 'Kir: You are well
aware, .sirrah! that you have bad
your pay for getting mo a divorce.
Now, Sir, I orilt'r you forthwith (or
soon ex J "to go font." Un.ler.stMnd,
oh? If you do not have it at-the
Spring term of court, I will mako.it
cost you dearly, and furthermore
will have you expelled from the bar.
Selah!
Our advice to tho attorney f? that
he cither procure that divorco or
leave tho country immediately.
