THE INDEPENDENT. JIILLSUOliO : THURSDAY. We assume no responsibility for viewsTx pressed byeorrespondents. Local INToxjs. Paid His Fine. It will be seen elsewhere that Johu D.onovan was locked up in the coun ty jail at this place last week in tie fault of his fines. A Portland friend of his carao up and paid the fiac-i and Mr. Donovan went forth free from tax as the ''blue lightning" whisky that he sold on tha fair grounds last fall. John sail that he did not pare much whether he went or staid jd jail. IIo said he would like to put the county to as much cost as pos sible. He said if he had been tried in Portland l:e would have got clear As a whistle, but in tliis heathen county an honest man hud no show. It is quite resonablo to suppose that John will not deal very extensively jn "cold coffee," or hot coffee cither, at our next fair unless he cau show the regular "papes" for it. It don't pay you see. For occasionally we get a foreman on the (5 rand jury who don't like "cold coffee" nor anv otl er sort of foolishness, and whom ! not even a District Attorney can butt off tho bridge. That's just what makes Donovan 'spise the "red-eye-" business in this countv. A Remarkable Jury. The jury that sat on tho cas of Holeomb vs. S danger in tho circuit pourt at this placa last week, is wor- thy of a notice. Their combined i ages amount to about 70 years. Their posterity numbers 5: children, J37 gr.intl children, and -1 great grand children. Their names me us follows: W. O. (jjibsGC, tLo eldest being 03 years, Titos. Tucker, S im uci Williams, W. L.
