In view of Hie approaching June election thla seem k be a mtli g tune to call the athsntlou of the cltltoa of this county to Its local affialrs Never In the history nt ihe county was there greater neceasl'ly for the iMMM to unite, regardleas of party, In the elee tloH of man who will curtail expenses and put down ex'sesalve taxation. The taxpayers were never s Illy prepared In me. t Urn demand. Mince the republican administration of county aflalrs commenced, four vears ago. the rate of taxation has grown higher each succeeding year. The change has been so radical, the anmants oollected and pa'd out so much In exoeaa of four years ago, aa to ch.lleinre the earliest attention or every voter. If you will but compare the official figure you cannot escape the onnclasion that there have been great extravagance and u 1- waste of the public mensy. HIrIi taxes are uot a blessing to aay people and Is not a welcome visitor to any home. We II ml that In 148 a tax levy of 16 mills raised a revenue sufficent to psy all the running expenses of the county, and a oonsldera' le sum on the oounty deot. In 1808 the tax levy was 20 mills, which raised a revenue of tS8,620, which waa more than twice as large as In 1898, and yet this large sum was not sufflclsut to pay the extrav agant expenditures of the oounty. In 1807 the levy was 17 mills. In 1898 the levy was 20 mills. In 18V9 tbe levy was 23 mills. Wo ask the Ux payers to -Id r these figures. With the low prloes prevailing for the products of tbe farm, such a blgh rats of taxstlou presents a serious ouestion for each voter to meet. Not only mutt we consider the low prices for the farm products, bat we must look at the faot that almost all the farm Implements aud the neceaslth's of life have Increased from 26 to 100 per cent In the Issl year. This high rate of taxation can be reduoed by an honest and economical admlntatratlon of the oounty affairs. This will not be done by the party lu power, under the laab and rule of the party ring. We believe it to be of the highest Importance for tbe welfare of the oounty, aud the duty of eaoh voter of whatever former party affiliation to plaoe men In office who will reduee tbe tax levy and run the county attain on an economical basis. A fair and equitable assessment of all taxable properly, aud the very low eat lax levy couslstsnt wllh efficient goverumeut, Is our motto. We therefore Invite all voters, lire, apectlve of party, to Join Ut lu this moveuieot of retrenchment and reform. JoaiiUA J. Walton, J. K. Amis, 1. B. Htkvkns, Com in I tie. COBIRG ITEMS.
