Dawson, said to an Alaskan reporter:
"Dawson is supplied with avanrthlBg
needed there for the winter. The re
ixirt as to a great shortage of oats is
not true. There li pleutyVfbats along
the river and in Dawson to supply the
interior. When wo got away from
Dawson, November 7, oats were sell
ing for 22 cents a pound and hay at
IS cents. Lust winter oats went to 40
snd 46 cents, and hay to 85 to 50 cents.
Tobacco sells in Dawson today for if 1
to f 1.25 a pound, less than it brings in
Hennett. The Reunett price is $1.50 a
pound. Flour that sold for $8 in Daw
sou a year ago is worth only . 75
there today. There will bo plontv of
beef in Dawson throughout the winter.
Dumboltou had four scows loaded with
beef ou the way in, one of which is at
Selkirk and one at Stewart river. 1 do
not know where the others are. Dum
boltou will take the meat through to
Dawson over the ieo after tbe river

Charles Christopher, who has nego

will be no less than half a dozen largo
hydranlic plants put in operation in
Atlin with the opening of spring. He
says tho output of gold in that country
will exceed $5,000,000. Tho gold com
missioner collected royalty on about
$700,000 this rammer, but he (ailed to
collect on more than half the otitpnt.
There was at least $1,500,000 taken
out of the Atlin gold to Ms this year,
and next year tho output will exceed
$5,000,000. Last summer tho great
majority of the miners did not get to
work before August 1, and they all

jealous of the introduction of Christi
anity among their countrymen.
