Prob ably, a description of tho University buildings and surroundings would heighten this interest. The campus has a slight elevation in the center, and slopes gently I nun this ou'either side. Then) aro very f -w native trees growing here; besides two Immense oaks at one side of t tie cam pus, all tho trees have been planted in receut years. Rut art aud cultivation w ith the aid ofuatureatld her .lenient are doing all they can tor oi r Alma Mater iu thu way of shade, an 1 in not many yeara to come, there will bo a ver itable forest of rare trees all around these halls. In the highest part of the campus aud right la tlie center of it Is Duady Hall, our oldest building. It was built lu 1K73 and named after tho late Judge Deady, who was president of the board of regents for so long. This building now is given up almost en tirely to science and tho fciontlflo labratories. The Latin and (IreeK professors and the library have piarters here also. Tho department of chemistry wm es the third floor; that of blolo. y part oi the second; and physics the first lloor. Ry tho way, science Is receiving a great Impetus here now. We have some very lino scientific pro fessors men from Eastern and Euro pean universities. The language department havo al- waya iieen par excellence, rioi jonu a . .M. t .1.. son, the ex-presiueui, sun nm ms chair of Latin; and who in Oregon, does uot know him? The library, almost exclusively a reference library, has some five or six thousand volumes in It. Resides this each department has a small library of Its own. Directly north of Deady Hall, and on the same elevation with It, is Vil- lard Hall, named from Henry Vlllard who gave so generously for the erec Hon of It, It is by far the handsome hulldlmr of the croup. The uuditort lum or assembly room Is In this build ing. It ha a seating capacity of ovei 1500. The Condon geological museum one of tho best on the coast, is also In this building. East of these hall Is the gym nasi urn and Oh, the good h arty work, or run rither, that in had in this old "gym." Near this is a dormitory, where from fifty to seventy-five young men live three-fourths of the year. On farther ruth Is Collier Hall, standing by itself with Its own beautiful grounds Taking it all together, the situation of the Stale Unlverty le almost. Ideal. Il has a fine back ground of foot-hills which seem made expressly for Jolly student tramps, aud the people of Eu gene are of an unusually high order thus giving the students many good soolal advantages. To say the least, we are all proud of our U of O and It surroundings. D. C. MORE PARTICULARS. Tke PrlneTllle Journal of r-uiurury Tells of tbe Suicide of tTt Waro.
