Joseph Dash, of Cleveland, O., for aome unknown reason, conceived the ghastly idea of killiug his whole fam ily, aud, securing a crowbar, repaired to the rojin where bla wife aud two daughters were sleeping. With oue blow be crushed the skull of his wife aud then turned to the cradle of bis youugeat child. The 19-year-old daughter in another bed awoke and sprang to arrcat the fiend's arm, but the blow fell across the iufant'a face. A desperate fight betweeu father and daughter took place. Among the collection is a pleae of tbe bemp rope with which tbe ssaaaain was hanged, and also a pieoe of the cotton rope thai his hands were tied witb. Each is about i inches long. Wardeu Crocker died two yiars ago, but Mr. Lull has a certificate in bia uncle's handwriting that tbe bemp memeuto , waa but from the rope thai banged Guiteau. Tbe collection also contains bottle of the sand used In testing the strength of the hangman's rope, J orlbbage board made from tbe lid of Guiteao's ooflln, and a lock of bis bair. During a part of the time of tbe as sassin's oonfluemeut in jail, bis mall matter was two to three wagonloads day. It con si ted mostly of letters de nouncing Guiteaa, often accompanied witb bideoua drawluga and piotuies, and the contribution of a bouquet by one peraon, Edward Dickey, Wash ington floiiat. The collection secured from Mr. Lull onutaius preaerved leaf from the bouquet and the card which aooompanied it On the card is inscribed: "We meet in paardise. Farewell." Another neatly written card of the collection reads: "You call yourself Git tow, You villainous, murdering imp; Dut we are glad to know You surely will get hemp." A pen-and-ink drawing pictures jail witb an empty cell and scaffold in the rear. Below the empty oell is written: "Empty is the oradle, Charles Guiteau is gone." Another represents Guiteau In agony just after the trapdoor has beeu sprung. The picture ia designated as "the irreaistible impulse."
