The wenther during the past week
ou the whole, been favorable to
the growing crop. There has beeu
some warm and muggy days that
would be Sertoli If vermin and mould
were present. Neitlier, have put
ii an appearauoo. Our I'aclllo coast
exchanges give Interesting reading thin
week concerning tho probable yield on
the coast. We note also that contract
ors are busy at work there, unit thnt
already a considerable portion of the
crop ha parted into their bunds. We
are also informed thut some c ti t ract
Ing lias bceu done in Oneida county.
Our exchanges also indicate tbal the
crop in this state will lie as short
elsewhere as In this county. A cable
gram from Germany, lecefved at this
oltlce on Thursday, says the weather
hnschacged for the bad there, and
that estimates of tho crops are reduced
very much."
The Germany Hop Grower's Annuel
utlon report, under date or Nuruberg,
July 4th says:
"During the month of June our
market has been as dull as before.
Transactions amounted to SOU and 700
bales a week, mainly taken for expor
tation at slowly recedidg prices.
"Prospects for the growing crop are
satisfactory In the districts of tSpalt,
Hattersan, aud Wurtemhcrg, also In
llohonila involving in the regions of
Jlorshrock, the Aischgroom, linden
and Alsace.
"Generally the hop plaut Is more
or lees backward In growth, but no
vermin worth mentioning. The tem
perature is not warm enough In the
day-time and much too cool at night.
Anyhow the continent Is not liable to
produce this year approximately as
It did Id 1394 and 5.
Collided with a Cow. Cottage
Urove-Lematl Leader: A meekeyed
bovine brought destruction to a wheel
and despair to the hearts ot a couple of
riders from Eugeue the other day.
Messrs Q W Oriflln and L I) Alex
ander took i spin to our town upon a
handsome tandem, and while wheeling
along one of the bypaths in the south
ern suburbs, they came across a cow
quietly brouslng by the path, and the
boys thought that they would glide
geutly by her, but just as they came
about oposite her she took a notion
to crossover to the other side of the
path, and in attempting to do so
stepped Into the frout wheel and broke
It budly. The boys tumbled up In a
heap and the cow passed on uncon
scious of the damage she had done.
The rim of the wheel was badly
broken, the fork of the forward wheel
bent at nearly right angles and the
pedals strained and bent, and there
was no alternative but pick up their
mount and carry it to a hotel and wait
for the first train home. The wheel is
nearly new aud a very handsome one,
but the well-meaning cow, for the
time being, spoiled its beauty an lies
troyed its usefulness.

White Crows. Cottage drove
Leader: Frank Veatuh has captured
some curious freaks of nature In the
shape of two white crows. One day
he noticed two white aud two black
birds, Just able to leave their nest, and
upon catchingandexamlniugthem de
cided that they were all crows of one
family. The white oues are as white
as snow and the black ones black as
tar. The feet, legs aud beaks of the
white ones are white and their eyes
are blue. Mr Veatcli has caged and
will raise them aa curiosities.
