Eugene today.
Lewis and John Morehouse who has
been home from the log drive for a
few days returned today.
Uncle Steve Rigdon and wife passed
here today on their way to the Pine
Openings, their summer residence.
F. Hinson has purchased 40 acres of
land from C. F. Humphrey and will
erect a dwelling on the same in the
near future.
J. M. Keeney went to Goshen today
with a load of chickens and eggs and
will bring back a load of hardware
and groceries.
A party of young folks gathered at
the residence of C. J. Hill on the even
ing of the 14th and spent a few hours
in dancing. All speak of a pleasant
time.
We are sorry to learn of the accident
that happened M. A. Veatch. While
working in the logging camp
of R. E. Edwards a log rolled on
him breaking his leg below the knee.
Rev. Taylor preached his first ser
mon at this place Hundoy. Owing to the
fact that it was not announced until
Saturday the congregation was small.
He will preach again on the 29th.

A. 1. Keeney received a severe kick from
a horse last Saturday, the result of a swarm
of bees getting at the team.
Mrs. 8outherland, whose husband re
cently died at Hood river, Or., arrived
here with her three small children, Monday,
and will make her borne with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Hutchinson.
Whereas, the county candidates are not
going to favor this pfsoe with their elo
quence and, the precinct nominees for the
offices of justice of the peace and constable
on the republican and democratic tickets
have arranged for a disoussion of important
topics of their respective parties, on Satur
day, May 21, at a o'clock p. m. The can
didates purpose to make it an interesting
meeting if a suffloient audience can be had.

njoy the occasion. We are all going to
vote for Joel Ware, and the prohibition and
people's party tickets, anyhow.

The largest sale of wild horses made
in the buneh-grass region for some
time was made on Monday last by
John Switzler, the veteran horse-raiser,
at Umatilla, Or. An Iowa drover
named Jackson bought eighteen car
loads. The horses are all in fine con
dition, and will be shipped to Iowa in
a few days. He paid an average price

A Portland paper says that Dr. Har
ry Lane returned on Wednesday last
from a trip to the East and Europe.

Prineville News: Frank Poludexter
Is back again from the Camp Polk
country, where he has been coolcing in
the construction camp of the Squaw
Creek Irrigation Company, whose
ditch is now completed. Frank says
that travelers are encamped on both
sides of the Cascades, awaiting the
opening of the road. Two men who
recently came across the summit on
foot reported the snow ten feet deep.

the turnout on Saturday nght Fay carried

the banner snd the inscription was burned.

worth League. How he first became sepa
rated from the boat, will doubtless never be
known, as he was alone. Regret is uni
versal at bis nntimely death.
The funeral will take place Tuesday,
May 17, at 1 o'clock p. ni., from the family
residenoe to the Springfield I. O. O. i.
