The Oregon Conference of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ met In setwlon June 17th In the beautiful little city of Hood lUver. HIbIiop J. W, Hott, D. D., presiding. It may not be out of place to say here, as there pur ports to have been held in KoMcburg a few weeks ago the annual conference of said church, that it, the Itottehurg conference, as presided over by Kev. H. J. Becker, was the secession or rad ical conference. There was a large attendance at the conference which was, no doubt, the bent seoslon the conference ever had. The work done in and reported from the several departments is most grati fying. The number of charges operat- eu and ministers employed mis year, are Just double those of last year. The membership hns increased nearly one third during the year. The work in Philomath College has been a pleasing surprise. In every department there has been an increase of iB per ceut, and in some departments Su per cent. Among other material enterprises, we have alMO erected a beautiful church in Hood Klver. at a cost of $3,008. The enthusiasm was unbounded, and steps were taken for the coming year. About 11700 were raised during the confer ence. Itev. (J. rSlckafoose, of Portland, was elected ureslalnir elder, ana Kev. Knotts was selected by the conference and Women's Board of Missions, to take charge of Portlaud mission sta tion. Itev. A. 8. Parker is appointed to the Euirene charjre. Mr. Parker comes from Minneapolis: is a fine Christian gentleman, and we recommend him to the confidence or the people. itev. C. B. Davis takes chanre of the ttprlngneld and Jasper appointments. J. It will be filled with stone and sub stentially built.
