About one weekng.i, a man by the inline of Fay Coon, who 1ms been work ing at the carpenter trade for Abram& Uon ey during the past summer, bought small bills of goods from several different nier chants on credit of course and hired a wagon nnd horses from Mr. J. 1!. Stowcll for the purpose, ns he stated, of running a ped dling wngon. Mr. Stowtll n few days ngo learned that the party bad sold the' team, wagon, etc., and had left the country. Mr. Stowell went to Woodland, Marion county, and found his outfit, which had been sold, and will recover the same. The goods had been sold to different parties through the valley. Coon was accompanied by nil indi vidual named Iligby, who it is stated was n partner in the transaction. A warrant was sworn i. nt for the nrrest of the parties on the charge of larceny, and duputy sheriff Swift arrested Iligby nt Portland and brought him hero Thursday night. Coon had left for San Francisco on one of the Portland steam, rs, but it is likely he will be apprehended, ns the police in that city have been telegraphed to nrrest him on his arrival. Iligby was uiveu n preliminary examination before Justice Kin-n-y yesterday afternoon. Thk Whkat Swisdlf.hs. We learn that the swindlers left Junction last Saturday im niediatily after the arrival of the Gdahu with an expose of their fraudulent methods. However they must have the cheek of Old Nick himself, for they were operating in Ilarrisbnrg and at Coburg, in this county, the next day. We have no report to show how they were received nt the first named place, but nt Coburg ibey got a warm recep tion and did not succeed iu robbing anyone. They were shown the article in the Giaiii by one of our farmer subscribers in that neighborhood, to whom they were trying to sell some SM wheat and they became expres sive in regard to the editor of this paper, Buying they wished be was in hades or some ottier warm locality.
