In an area embracing less than one-
half of tbe llor-e Heaven region.W.T.,
2000 acres have, been planted with
Indian corn this senson. The lower
Yakima country is proving well
adapted to that crop,
A dry piece of ground should be
selected in which to build the poultry
house. The ground, if well under-
drained and prepared by putting on a
thick layer of sand and hue grsvel,
will be much better than a board floor
for the fowls.
It is said that a train load 3.10 cattle,
from Cotulla, Texas, which had been
fattened on prickly pear and cotton
seed meal, was lately marketed in
Chicago. They attracted considerable
attention, being the firet large loj of
cattle ever fed that for market.
Turpentine will kill the sculo pests

should be put on the trees with a brush,

According the San Francisco Mer
chant there are now in California at
least 4000 wine groweis, and the area
planted in vines is not less than 1GO,000
acres. The value of this lard, with tho
improvements, is not less than $G0,-
000,000. ' Employment is found for at
least 40,000, who, with their families,
represent a producing population of
150,000 ptrsons.
The great flow of milk of cows is
truly artificial. In a state of Dature
tbe cow gives only the necessary
quantity, and gives it only the neces
eary time to sustain the calf. The
greater and longer yield of milk is the
result of better feeuing, better treat
ment and longer manipulation of the
the teats. Hence, to increase tho yield
of milk, feed and milk well.
The Glenn ranch, in Colusa county,
Cal., comprises 52,000 acres, of which
23,000 are in grain this season. Of
tbe 23,000 acres, 14,000 were summer
fallowed snd 9000 winter-sown. F. C.
Lusk, who bag chirge is confident
that the product this year will be 25
bushels to the acre. Thero are at
present engaged in summer-fallowing
10,000 acres, 80 eight-mule teams,
making 640 head of mules at work.
The famous Snoqualmie hop-growers'
ranch, at Squak, King county,
W.T., is cuppopcl to be the largest in
the world. It contains 300 acres of
of bops. They have twenty span of
horses and mules, a saw-mill which is
soon to be run night and day, a logging
camp, 100 acres in oats and wheat,
and 50 acr.n of potatoes, etc. They
have their own carpenter and black
smith shops, and they keep a hotel
and large store besides, and by next fall
will have 800 men in their employ.
