Beginalno this week, a through second-class rate of $20 per passengor will be charged from San Francis co to Portland. There will be no reduction price to passengers stopping at Salem, Al bany, Eugene, eta. Tickets at the same rate will also be sold from Portland to San Fran cisco. It has not yet been decided whether or not upon the completion of the road this schedule will be lowerod. It dopenda on whether the Q.& C. and 0 & Q are operated as a single line or separately) It is also thought that the sleeping car service between Ashland now $3.60 will be reduced to $2.50. A buffet seivice of serving meals is to be in augurated on the California portion of the line and it is to be booed that the Orecron branch will imitate its example. Although not so complete as tne dining service, this will be cousidered preferable to the haatv meals bad at way stations. Link Countt Bacon to Nsw Yobe. Jas. Shelton, residing in the Forks of the Bantl am, shipped from this city yesterday to New York City 90 hams, weighing 1160 pounds. They were sent to Col. T. E. Hogg and Messrs Blair and I'yne. who on their triD hut summer were pleased with Oregon bams and contracted with Mr Shelton for shipment, paying 18 cents per pound. This is proba bly the first shipment of Oregon bacon to New York, and it shows that Oregon wheat fed bacon can successfully compete with the pork of the much boasted corn producing states.
