Blaine's character: "Tlia Jay Cooke

and 230 miles of th.i road arc well-nih
completed, and the whole line will bo
pushed forward rapidly. Jti a strange

The Irish World supported Cooper
in 1676, And Garfield in 1880. In
881-2 with Mr Blaine's course in the
office of Secretary of State fully known
it repeotedly denounced Blaine as "a
pro British secretary ot suite. ii
declared that his presence at a St.
Patrick's night banquet "after what he
has done is an insult to every intern
ee nt Irishman present" Its editor
could not "write of this man wilhott
exasperation." It called him a "flun
key," when Secretary Blaine spoke cf
"the loyalty of American citizens to
Queen Victoria." It now supports
Elaine and a "vigorous" foreign policy.
Any person receiving that paper free
is indented to tne nonesi, pairiouc

"It will be a painful shock to the
Maine managers to learn that, while
they have been devoting their energies
to shouting and arranging 'dickers'
with Butlor and Kelly, the New York
Democratic State Committee have been
making a careful porsonal canvass of
the 2000 election districts in the State,
and have found in the 1750 of them
which they have polled, proUbly 75,000
Republicans who will not vote for
Blaine, (ifty per cent of whom are
working for Cleveland.
Gov. Whiteaker will canvass Lane
county for Cleveland, and will also
speak at various points in adjoining
counties. He is an able man and win
have something to say to the people
that nearly concerns them, and win
say it in his own admirable way. uo.
Whiteaker is a model Jetlersonian
Democrat, actuated by the highest
principles. lie is a bold advocate of
the plundered producing class and can
not fail of winning votes for the De
mocracy. Congressman George will tump th'
State this Fall. He will have an op
portunity to explain his uniform sup
port of railroad measures. He will
probably tell what he has done for the
people, which will not take him very
long, and then he can make promises
as to what he will not do, in case the
peoplo are so very foolish as to endorse
liim for Senator.
