Opposition lo Blaine.
Nkw York, Jane 8th. It is re
ported tho Beaton Advertiser announces .
that it will not support Blaine.
The Times of this city says: "One
word as to tho pbsition of the Times,
it will not support Blaine for President.,
It will advise no man to vote for him, .
and its reasons for this course are per;
fectly well understood by everybody
that has ever read it. ' . . '
The Truth, which recently had let-x
teni from President Arthur, Hamilton
Fiali and others, com moating on fa in-,.v
dependence, shows its true colors this,
morning by the following head lines
with comments to suit: "Mulligan,
Jumping Jim and Black Jack nomi
nated, alias the Republican party."
Blaine's nomination is not only
surprise lo the Herald, but bitter dis-.
appointment. It heads its article;
'Worse than a crime;" and says: "We .
are sorry for it and we believe the Rev
publicans will all be sorry next No
vember, but although every man who
cares fcr tho purity of. public life and
the welfare of the country, and espec
ially all thoso who hopod for the re
demption of the Republican party from
the evil elements that have already
dragged it down in the depths, most
poignantly regret ft nomination like
thin. Thoro has grown within a day
or two in many circles a sentiment that
will regard the nomination with grins
sense of satisfaction.?
tCouer d'Alene Mines,
A few days since a practical mine? wrote1
from the Coeur d'Alene mines to a friend at
Salt Lake in -the following comprehensive
stle: "Timet are awful dull here at pres
ent, and very little work is going oo. Money
is very scarce indeed. The peoplethere who
own mines den't teem to go ahead and open,
their claims up, and they don't know what'
they have got yet. They all think thty have
got the world by the tail and all want to-
tell ont for a big thing. Thoy are a lot o((
old Webfoot ranchers located here, who,
have taken op the country for miles and
are doing nothing ou their locations, but
are sitting around the taloont waiting for
tome one te let np the drinks for them and
they oan mine like good fellows while drink- '
ing forty-rod whisky- I believe I have been
all over the mining camp here, as they call
it, and I havon't scon anything iu the shape
of millet. I have sceu tome pretty gold.
but only a little of it. The gold is coarse,
aad ratreed. ami at protect there are abont.
three plaoer mine working and they only
work a few men on each claim. Wages are
low for a new mining camp, only paying
miners, as they call them, (2 CO and 13 60
per day aud board, aud they can get all the
men they want at these prices, as lots of
men are here looking for work and are sell
ing thoir blanket! and leaving daily for the
railroad. How it thtt for high? tingle meal

fancy girlt are batching, thowiug that money

camp. Not much building it going on.
